On any page, right-clicking suddenly launches a random menu

Hello everyone, for a long time now there has been a problem when you right-click on a page and a random menu is launched on a random field of the page.
Go to any page and use the right mouse button to click on the page. As a result, in some zones functions from the right-click menu in Brave will be launched.

  1. This happens in Manjaro X11 and Wayland
  2. Any core
  3. In my memory for several years now
  4. What is this connected with? My tests showed that if you disable the ad blocking extension, whether built-in or third-party, such as ublock, then everything returns to normal. I tried different blockers, the result is the same. Other add-ons have been disabled completely.
Is it possible to fix this somehow?

So your OP issue becomes the center of attention:

“Right-click on a page, and a random [pop-up] menu is launched [hovering over, or adjacent to] a random field of the page.”

“[And] in some zones, functions of that right-click [pop-up] menu, will be launched.”

Leave the screenshots, as is.

I am guessing, that there is something about the AdBlock extension (for example, among the extensions you mention), and a function of AdBlock where an ad is hidden, but the ad space remains, and the right-click is snagging the residual or the code . . . though my word choice is probably incorrect.

Hoping that @Mattches sees this, because your issue does sound like an actual - but more troublesome to unravel - bug.

PS. I read all of your detals; and I wondered if you compared the logs, for AdBlock extension enabled versus disabled.

Hi,
I don’t think my difficulties are any different from этих.
I’ll change the post
I also checked on sites where there are no ads at all, the result is the same, I don’t think these are blocks (remnants of advertising banners) сайт1 сайт2
The browser can no longer be used on the desktop version because of this, and the mobile version because of рекламы.
I do not see the future of this browser for myself, as it is not suitable when you do a lot of tasks, sync and use the android version. While this is the case, it is possible that something will change.

Just today, this problem caused me to fall right out of a video conference when I right-clicked on the conference screen. It opened something else in the tab.

It is really messing me around now, and I’m going to move to Firefox until it can be sorted out. I’ll continue to monitor this thread, though.

Context menus are usually positioned above or below the mouse cursor, depending on where the cursor is on the screen. The bug in question occurs when the context menu is too large to fit above or below the cursor. Ad blockers add items to the menu, therefore they increase the likelihood that the context menu will be too large to be displayed safely.

I first noticed the bug when right-clicking an image in youtube to open a video in a new tab. The context menu for an image has several items related to images, so is larger than a context menu for text. When I right-click a video title (text) rather than its thumbnail (image), everything works properly.

Yes, firefox or LibreWolf is now optimal for both desktop and mobile(since it supports extensions), and really blocks ads, and adds maximum functionality. There are no mobile Chromium browsers(now they make Edge, but this is Microsoft), with support for add-ons. There is also an option for the mobile version of the Android is Iceraven with the ability to edit about: config

This appears to be the same issue others are encountering. Further, the issue appears to be an upstream Chromium bug — please see my reply in a related post here:

Okay, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. I ran a lot of tests on various browsers and found another reason in other browsers as well. I’ve come across this statement somewhere before. So, if the size of the popup window in the menu does not rest against the upper limit, then what happens is that a chaotic default menu is selected. Try it out for yourself to see your result

Can you please provide the exact steps (numbered, if possible) you used to reproduce this issue so I can test on my end?

The steps are very simple, assuming your context menu has enough items:

  1. load the youtube homepage
  2. right-click a video thumbnail near the vertical middle of the page

Those are the steps I followed in the screencast I posted to the Chrome issues site*.

  • Edit: actually, it was the search page, because the home page is empty for new users. Instead of a selection of videos, it displays a notice stating that history is disabled!

That was using Chromium with a fresh profile. On Brave on Youtube, the context menus I get for image links and text links are as follows:

Images (~686 pixels tall):

Text (~484 pixels tall):

When I right-click a video thumbnail near the top of the youtube home page, the context menu appears beneath the mouse cursor. When that same image is at the foot of the page, the context menu appears above the cursor. But when the image is in the middle of the page the context menu briefly flashes next to the cursor and the closest menu item is activated.

Right-clicking the text link beneath the thumbnail always causes the context menu to be displayed above or beneath the cursor, even when the text link is in the middle of the page.

Yes, the post below says it’s true, as you can see from my screenshots in Firefox, this is obvious, i.e. as soon as the menu height hits the upper limit, it works wonders. In Brave, as you can see in the second screenshot, everything is happening more chaotically, but you can also notice the same analogy. Yes, and holding down the right menu button makes it possible to select it correctly.

At the same time, if you disable ad-blocking extensions , as I said before, even if they are built-in or external, then everything comes back to normal. Perhaps this is how Google punishes ad blocking, although Firefox has the same difficulties only less.

And the most interesting thing is that the Vivaldi browser is not affected by this, it is possible that they create their own shell on top of Chrome. At the same time, Firefox sometimes suffers from this. Moreover, all ad blocking extensions are enabled
