Issue with Text-to-Speech Functionality: Option+Esc Reads Bookmark Folders Instead of Highlighted Text in Brave Browser on macOS Sonoma 14.0

I am experiencing an issue with the text-to-speech functionality in the Brave browser on macOS Sonoma 14.0. When I highlight text on any webpage and then press Option+Esc to initiate text-to-speech, the browser doesn’t read the highlighted text. Instead, it reads aloud the folder names from my bookmarks.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Brave browser.
  2. Navigate to any webpage with text.
  3. Highlight the text.
  4. Press Option+Esc to activate text-to-speech.

Additional Information

  • This issue does not occur in Safari, indicating it is specific to Brave.
  • I have tried restarting the browser and disabling extensions, but the issue persists.
  • I also tested this in a new private window to rule out extension interference, but the issue remains.
  • No errors appear in the developer console when the issue occurs.
  • Issue still exists when using a different user profile in Brave.

I have attached a screenshot that includes the version of my Brave browser and another screenshot of my “Spoken Content” settings from macOS, where text-to-speech is enabled.

Could you please assist me in resolving this peculiar issue? Thank you.
