Is Using Brave Browser for Downloading Torrents Safe?

I’ve been using Brave for a while now and love its privacy features. Recently, I found out that Brave has a built-in WebTorrent client, which seems like a convenient way to download torrents without installing additional software. However, I have a few concerns and would appreciate some advice.

  1. Safety : Is it safe to use Brave’s built-in WebTorrent client for downloading torrents? Are there any specific precautions I should take, other than using a VPN?
  2. Privacy : Can anyone see or access my browser data or login information when I’m using Brave to download torrents? How can I ensure my privacy is protected?
  3. Performance : For those who have used Brave’s WebTorrent client, how does it compare to standalone torrent clients like Deluge or BitTorrent in terms of performance and features?

I’ve been using Seedr.cc for torrent downloads because it feels safe, but I have a large 8.00 GB torrent file to download, and my Seedr account only has about 3.45 GB of space left. I prefer not to install too much software on my PC, so I’m considering using Brave’s WebTorrent client instead.

Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

  1. Yes, it is just as safe to use the WebTorrent client as it would be any other client.
  2. This information is not saved, stored or sent anywhere. In fact, unless you elect to download/save the torrent file to your machine, all torrent data is completely erased once your close the tab.
  3. It is comparable to most other torrent clients in my experience. Torrents download at similar speeds to other installed torrent clients I’ve used and you’re also able to stream the torrent in browser as it downloads.

Hi,

Brave’s built-in WebTorrent client is convenient but has some considerations:

  1. Safety:
It’s generally safe, but always use a VPN to hide your IP while torrenting and ensure you’re downloading from trusted sources.
  2. Privacy:
Brave protects your privacy with its built-in features, but your IP address will still be visible to others. A VPN will protect you further.
  3. Performance:
The WebTorrent client is simple and good for basic use, but standalone clients like Deluge offer better performance and features, especially for large downloads.
