Is brave selling our information?

Before I say anything, I use McAfee as my anti-virus. It said that Brave was trying to direct a connection to a risky website called like app.sell or something like that. Anyone have answers to this?

@yea Brave does not sell user data. That’s one of its core principles, and nothing you described suggests otherwise.

Jumping straight to that kind of accusation is a reach. From what you said, it’s far more likely something else triggered the connection. It could be a browser extension, Brave fetching a favicon for a bookmarked site or password entry from password manager, or even unrelated software or malware on your system.

If you’re genuinely concerned, start by running a full system scan, checking your extensions, and reviewing what sites are saved in your browser. That should help narrow it down.

Also, if you’re looking for useful answers, please include relevant info. You haven’t mentioned what version of Brave you’re using, which version of Windows, what you were doing when the alert appeared, or what troubleshooting you’ve already done. All of that matters.

Try this:

  • Go to brave://settings/privacy
  • Do a “Delete browsing data” of everything.
  • Run the scan again.
