I can't figure out how to get Shielded Zcash in Brave

Description of the issue:

I can’t figure out how to get shielded ZEC into the Brave wallet.

Is the issue occurring on a specific network?

Zcash

What operating system are you using?

MacOS

Brave Version (check About Brave):

1.77.100

Additional Information:

When I open the wallet I see this:

Typing “Zcash” into the Search bar gives me this:

Clicking “Continue” gives me this:

[New users can upload at most 4 media files. To be continued…]

Hm… isn’t that the transparent-only version of Zcash that I already passed over once before I discovered the “Zcash Shielded” thing? Well, it seems to be the only option, so I’ll try it…

Click “Continue” and …

Hm, yep, we’re back here.

Looking back over this, it seems like the moment I really went off the rails was when I clicked “Deposit” on “Zcash Shielded” and then it took me back to this search bar to search for a network.

Okay, I give up. FOR NOW.

But… that’s a Zcash t-address? Is the right way to get shielded Zcash in Brave to start by depositing to a t-address? Maybe, but I’ll come back to that possibility after exploring the UI some more…

Aha! Clicking on Portfolio and scrolling down gives me this:

Clicking on the 3 dots next to “Zcash Shielded” shows this:

Okay, we’re on our way! Clicking deposit gives me this:

What? Why is Brave asking me which network/coin when I just clicked “Deposit” on the “Zcash Shielded”?

Oh well, I’ll just type “Zcash” into the search bar again…

Hello! Thanks for the feedback.

ZEC addresses are in transparent mode by default. To switch to a Shielded address visit Accounts → ZEC Menu → Switch to a Shielded Account.

The Portfolio section defaults to the deposits page when you select the deposit option.

If you use the Accounts section and click on deposit under ZEC, you will be redirected to the specific token deposit page showing all three ZEC address types.

The Deposits section should show all three address types for ZEC, but does not. I’ve relayed to the team.

We have an open issue to resolve these concerns you’ve presented. Thanks again!

Thanks for the response! I’ll follow that issue on github. So, I followed your instructions: Accounts → ZEC menu → Switch to a Shielded Account, and this is what I see:

It’s been a few minutes now, and I don’t any indication that it is making progress. I’ll leave it running and let you know what happens.

This may be a bug/error. If you continue do you see a synced account? It should say 0 blocks behind.

If not, Sync account again and you should see success.

Okay, the next time I had checked, it said this:

So then I clicked Close, and saw this:

(I had already sent ZEC to my Brave wallet before I enabled Shielded Zcash mode.)

When I click “Transactions”, I see this:

Well, that’s concerning! The “transaction history” log shows no transactions, and yet I have a lot of ZEC in my wallet. That doesn’t add up. For now, it’s no problem because I know whta happened, but this means I can’t just trust the transaction history log to show me all of the information accurately, which makes me cautious about relying on it.
