I had an earlier thread about this, but it hasn’t had any replies and I don’t know how to edit it. I accidentally added a passcode to my computer and now I’ve locked myself out of my Google account. I literally don’t know what to do - the fingerprint scanner never worked, I don’t understand how to use the Authenticator app, and it asks me to plug in some device that I don’t have. Everything is tied to my Google accounts and I can’t reach them now. Can someone please help me?
Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?
Expected result:
**Brave Version( check About Brave
):v 1.79.126
Additional Information: Windows computer
I did manage to get myself logged back into Google (huge relief) but how do I make this stupid passcode thing go AWAY, so I don’t do this again?
@agentil the issue here is you seem to be talking about your Google account and not Brave. This is a page for support surrounding Brave. You’re saying “passcode” but based on the description it seems you mean passkey
which is what Google and others are trying to get people to use instead of passwords.
Some articles kind of highlighting this would be like:
- https://www.wired.com/story/google-passkey-advance-protection-program/
You can reference the articles below to understand what passkeys are a little better:
And for your Google account, probably want to reference their official help article at https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/13548313

I think you might be right, but here is a screenshot of what I’m seeing. There does seem to be some involvement with Brave as well as Google, but I will definitely look into these articles you have provided.
@agentil It’s just letting you know which app was making the request. In this case, it was your Google account using your browser.
Since it asks you to scan something, it probably means your passkey was set up on your phone. You would use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code from your screenshot. After scanning, you should see an option like “use passkey” or something similar. Then it will typically ask you for the password that you use for that device. So if your android used something like a face recognition or fingerprint then you would use that. Otherwise it may just ask you for your password or pin that you use to unlock your phone.
Also, just a heads-up: you should avoid sharing QR codes like that. It’s probably fine this time, but in general, sharing them can sometimes give others access to your accounts. It’s always better to keep that kind of information private whenever possible.
Thank you so much. I will work it through my Google settings. And thanks for the tip about the QR code, I usually am so careful, but I didn’t even think. Is there a way I can remove it or delete the thread, just in case?
I had already unlisted this topic to make it harder to find and I just edited your one reply to remove the image out. So the combination of the two at least should help. This forum doesn’t really have any way to fully delete things
Thank you! You’re so kind. Much appreciate the help and advice.
