Brave blocks 2FA and PassKey

I have my Google/GMail accounts setup for 2FA, and Brave just logs me in without even asking. I also set up my account for Passkey, and that doesn’t work either. If I manually tell it to log me out of all accounts, and log back in, it takes my password, and that’s all.

It also doesn’t log me out when I close it, even if I shut off my PC. I turn it on, go into Brave, and I’m signed into Google.

Where’s the security I hear about if anyone can go to my PC and log into Brave with no hesitation?

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to the Advanced tab at brave://settings/clearBrowserData . . . and for “Time Range” select “All time” . . . and then:

  • Advanced tab > Enable Cookies and other site data
  • Advanced tab > Enable Autofill form data

Then click the “Clear Data” button.

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to the On exit tab at brave://settings/clearBrowserData

  • On exit tab > Enable Cookies and other site data
  • On exit tab > Enable Autofill form data

Then click the “Save” button.

Exit / Quit Brave Browser. Restart the computer. Start Brave Browser. Test.

Well, now 2FA works. BUT, passkey still doesn’t.

Some causes of extension problems, sometimes:

  • combination of extensions
  • order of installation
  • Developer mode switch is disabled at brave://extensions/
  • Details of extension > Allow in Private switch is disabled
  • extension incompatible (version conflict on occasion)

The problem isn’t Brave, I think. When I go into the Google settings and try to set a passkey, it says it can’t set ON THE PC. I setup one on my phone, but it won’t use it. I expected it to work like the 2FA, try to log in and it asks on another device. Apparently not. Also, 2FA works when I sign into one account, but not another, even though both are set to use 2FA.

Using search criteria Google mail gmail passkey and a search engine online, I imagine that you and I would be looking for the answers ← I am not going to know more than thee. For example:

Trying to stumble upon what will work.
