Recently (noticed this yesterday) Brave browser on my Windows 10 laptop is constantly giving me “Page unresponsive” popups when I do a Google search. The mouse pointer does not change from arrow to hand on links, and I get the “Page Unresponsive” message (see screen shot, below).
To reproduce: Go to Google.com or perform a search from the URL bar.
It should immediately allow me to click on links when the page loads. My other browsers on the same computer do this. Brave used to do this earlier this week. And other pages I’ve tried (e.g., bing.com) don’t seem to do this.
Do you have any extensions installed/enabled? If so, does it still happen with them all disabled?
Does the issue occur in a Private window?
Does the issue occur if you create a new profile and try it in that profile? (Make sure your original profile does not have any open windows; only the new profile should be open.)
Is any antivirus or other security software installed? If so, can you perform a full scan?
Dear JimB1,
With your help, I was able to pin it down. It was a simple little extension that would replace curse words with asterisks (webcleaner). Disabling it instantly fixed the issue. It used to work fine but something seems to have broken it. I very much appreciate that you took the time to respond. Thank you so much!
