Googe News Subtopic Performance

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Description of the issue:

Subtopics of https://news.google.com bog down on load, and seem to utilize significant resources (e.g. hot phone) while loading, viewing, scrolling.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Navigate to https://news.google.com
  2. From left-nav, choose a subtopic (“Technology” appears to be particularly bad)

NOTE: Unsure if it would be different, but these steps are done while NOT logged into Google account.

Expected result:

Similar performance as other websites.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

1.5.120 (but issue experienced in versions well before this)

Mobile Device details

Android 10; Pixel 2 Build/QQ2A.200305.002

Additional Information:

Noticed a similar report at Google news is a total performance pig. However, before I try the suggested filters, I’d like to know more about the implications in terms of privacy, or other risks. Thanks!

I just tested news.google.com and various categories. Seems okay? Try clearing app data/cache and restart the browser.

Incident can be closed. This isn’t Brave-specific. The issue exists in Chrome and Firefox as well.

It’s only seen when NOT logged into Google, which is why I never noticed it in Chrome. The most obvious occurrence is when visiting the “Technology” page, but again only on mobile and only when NOT logged into google, as the page is completely different when logged in or when using the desktop version.
