General questions about private windows and guest windows

  1. Suppose I configure to clear all browsing data on exit, except site and shield settings. Is this the same in effect as running everything in a private window once I exit the browser? If not, in what way is it different?

  2. I notice a main menu item “open guest window” which opens a private window under a guest profile. How would this be of use, as distinct from setting up a guest profile to be run on a guest Windows account?

Thank you.

If you don’t clear Site and Shields Settings on exit, all site-specific permissions and Brave Shields settings will be stored between browsing sessions in a regular window.

You can’t change site-specific site permissions while in a private window, but you can change site-specific Brave Shields settings, and those Brave Shields settings will be erased upon closing the private window. And here comes the difference you’re looking for - the site-specific Brave Shields settings won’t be erased in a regular (normal) window unless you clear Site and Shields Settings, whereas the settings will be cleared upon closing the private window.
