Everytime I change the volume or even turn the volume on a video brave pauses

Description of the issue:
Whenever I have to watch a video, I first have to turn the volume up, this pauses the video, if I change the volume while the video is playing, it pauses the video, this does it for every single website/video ever

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

Find any video, if you push play and and try to adjust the volume, it pauses the video

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result:
I should be able to change the volume on something without it pausing the video

Reproduces how often:
Every single time
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Windows 10 up to date brave 1.22

Additional Information:

@Flaggy12,
Thanks for reaching out. I think this may be a known issue – can you try enabling Autoplay for once of the sites you’re seeing this behavior on (youtube.com is an easy example) and see if you still get the same behavior?

It is turned on for Youtube and it still does it.

@Flaggy12,
That’s…strange. Can you try clearing cache/site data and resetting permissions for youtube and see if this helps the issue? To do this:

  1. Visit Youtube.com
  2. Click the “lock” icon in the address bar
  3. Click Site Settings
  4. Then click both Clear data and Reset permissions

Make sure you refresh the page after making the above changes before testing. Let me know what you find out.

Yeah still does it. I have uninstalled/re-installed Brave, the only thing I haven’t done is wiped my drive and started with a fresh install of Windows. Doesn’t matter what site I am on, as soon as I hit that volume slider the video pauses.

@Flaggy12,
Can you confirm whether or not this only happens in Brave or if it happens in other browsers as well? Additionally, can you try and see if any errors appear in the dev tools console? It might give us an idea of what’s going on. To do this:

  1. Visit an offending video site (such as youtube)
  2. Start streaming a video, then open dev tools (Menu --> More tools --> Dev tools or ctrl +shift + i)
  3. Click on the Console tab in the Dev tools window.
  4. While the video is playing, try changing the volume as you described

See if any out put is displayed in the Console and if so, please take a screenshot and share it here.

Either way, it is very likely the same thing causing this issue I had previously logged:

Does not do it in Google Chrome, and here is something weird, I have changed absolutely nothing on my computer and this morning it stopped doing it. I can change the volume without the video pausing in Youtube. Maybe some updates ran? No idea. Anyways, thank you for all your help. I will remember the console trick for next time.

What’s funny though is it’s still happening in Reddit.

So the fix was to Allow Autoplay and I can change the volume without the video stopping, would’t that defeat the purpose of Autoplay?

Or rather defeat the purpose of allowing Brave to block Autoplay. Now when I scroll Reddit the video starts playing automatically, and I can change the volume, but the reason I am using Brave is to block autoplay!
