EU citizen living in Spain is not upheld

Briefly describe your issue:
Contradictory behavior when Uphold is shown as valid custodian for my country of residence. I go through the process of signing up with them as instructed. Then I try to actually connect Brave Rewards, only to be presented with the contradictory message:

Region currently not supported
Your Uphold account can’t be connected to your Brave Rewards profile at this time. Your Uphold account is registered in a country that’s not currently supported for connecting to Brave Rewards.
See the current list of supported regions and learn more about connecting a custodial account to Brave Rewards.

Close
I would expect this message before everything, not after signing up with Uphold. How to work around this problem?

What Operating System and Brave version are you using? (Menu --> About Brave)
Debian 12 and Brave 1.75.178 Chromium: 133.0.6943.98 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Who is your verified custodian? (Uphold/Gemini/bitFlyer)
Uphold

Are you in a supported region?
I am in Spain but Uphold requests my citizenship which is the Netherlands. As EU citizen they don’t give us any ES photo ID because my NL photo ID (passport) as such is accepted anywhere in the EU.

@erniecom Netherlands is not a country that can connect to Uphold using Rewards. If you look, even European Union is not listed. Spain is on the list, but that means you need to have a Spain passport associated with your Uphold account. The API uses whatever passport you have as well as your address to determine where you’re from. If you haven’t updated all of this with Uphold, then there’s nothing Brave can do.

Again, if you check the list of approved countries at https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/6539887971469-List-of-supported-regions-Custodial-payout-accounts you’ll see that Netherlands or EU is not there.

And for Uphold itself, if you check their list at https://support.uphold.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026786712-Non-Supported-Jurisdictions you will see they currently have restrictions on Netherlands. It’s on the list of countries where they do not allow new accounts. As they state on the bottom:

Note: If you are a current customer in one of the locations listed above, your access may be limited and we may require you to close your account.

And so it seems as you said, your account is limited. This is because of Uphold, so you need to complain to them.
