"Domain Blocked" Pop-ups

Constant “Domain Blocked” Pop-ups

Hi everyone, I’m a big fan of the browser and it has honestly made my life so much easier but I seem to be consistently running into one issue which is really tainting my experience.

I often visit a website and end up clicking through many webpages at a time. Some of these webpages (sometimes all) seem to contain a hidden pop-up which is triggered upon clicking on the webpage and opens another tab. Brave browser seems to recognise these pop-ups and blocks the domains however the new tab still opens - this time with the notification from Brave instead. Though this is preferable to the ad, it unfortunately has the same frustrating effect as it forcefully redirect you to the new tab.

Is there any way for me to disable the ‘domain blocked’ notifications or the forceful opening/redirection to a new tab whilst maintaining the pop-up blocking feature?

I have attached some screenshots for reference

I am using the Brave app for iOS (Version 1.74.49), currently on the latest Brave update and iOS version (iOS 18.3)

My ‘Trackers & Ads Blocking’ setting is on Agressive but when it is set to Standard the ad pop-up just opens in the new tab instead of the ‘domain blocked’ notification

Many thanks in advance :slight_smile:

It looks like you’re dealing with an issue where Brave blocks pop-ups but still opens a new tab with the “domain blocked” notification. Unfortunately, there isn’t an option to disable that notification while keeping aggressive blocking. You can try setting the blocking to “Standard” to avoid the redirection, though it might allow some ads. Hopefully, this will be improved in future updates!

Visiting video streaming sites?

Hi, thank you for the response :slight_smile: unfortunately setting blocking to “Standard” still results in redirection, just this time to the original pop-up. Seems like I will have to wait for this to hopefully be fixed in future updates.

Hi, no this issue is not relating to video streaming sites.

Please edit your Original Post (“OP”) above, to include the actual Brave Browser (iOS) version numbers.

Please include confirmation, that you have ENABLED:

Brave Browser > Settings > GENERAL > Block Popups

Brave Browser > Settings > Shields & Privacy > Auto-Redirect AMP Pages
Brave Browser > Settings > Shields & Privacy > Auto-Redirect Tracking URLs
Brave Browser > Settings > Shields & Privacy > Enable Global Privacy Control
Brave Browser > Settings > Shields & Privacy > Block Cookie Consent Notices

Brave Browser > Settings > Shields & Privacy > OTHER PRIVACY SETTINGS > Block 'Switch to App' Notices
Brave Browser > Settings > Shields & Privacy > OTHER PRIVACY SETTINGS > Block Dangerous Websites

Please include confirmation, that you have DISABLED:

Brave Browser > Settings > Shields & Privacy > OTHER PRIVACY SETTINGS > Allow universal links to open in external apps

Please clear, remove entries in:

Brave Browser > Settings > Shields & Privacy > Manage Website Data

Please ENABLE:

Brave Browser > Settings > Shields & Privacy > CLEAR PRIVATE DATA >
-Browsing History
-Cache
-Cookies and Site Data
-Brave Ads Data

and anything else that you want to CLEAR

Click the Clear Data Now button.

Be certain to completely exit / quit the Brave Browser app:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/109359

And do an iOS Shutdown TWICE.

When you start up your iOS device, test both conditions, ENABLED / DISABLED , for:

Private Browsing Only

In general, do what you can to wring out the dust, dirt, cache, clutter, and external “forces” (websites) influence, at least for the moment: testing.

Hi, thank you for your response - I edited my original post to include the Brave Browser (iOS) version number. Also, I can confirm that I already had the settings you have recommended enabled/disabled. I did click the ‘clear data now’ button, completely exited my app, and did an iOS shutdown twice however unfortunately the issue still persisted even with both conditions of ‘Private Browsing Only’ and ‘Aggressive’/‘Standard’ trackers & ads blocking.

Re the 2 domains mentioned by the OP, @andromeda

  • diagramjawlineunhappy.com
  • divisiondrearilyunfiled.com

I looked at the details of:

https://easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org/easylist_noadult.txt

There are 2 ENTRIES for diagramjawlineunhappy.com:

||diagramjawlineunhappy.com^
||diagramjawlineunhappy.com^$popup

Only 1 ENTRY for divisiondrearilyunfiled.com:

||divisiondrearilyunfiled.com^

Which site is launching the popups?
