Description of the issue:
Under the file menu, the “close tab” option disappears after the browser runs for an extended period of time. When it vanishes, the associated shortcut stops working.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Running the browser for a long period of time

The “close tab” entry in the file menu ought to remain there

This has been an issue for several versions
Additional Information:

@braddruzik,
Can you share a screenshot of the File menu when this happens? Additionally, can you share the macOS version you’re using when you see this?
I do not see this issue on my end using macOS Sonoma 14.6.1
@braddruzik,
The keyboard shortcut used to close a tab should be Cmd + W — you’re saying that using that shortcut when the Close tab option disappears does not work? Additionally, how long does this take to occur? Further, can you confirm that this isn’t the result of a specific action you take? For example, if you were to simply open the browser and leave it there for x amount of time, would this issue still occur?
Yes, the shortcut Cmd+W stops working when the close tab option disappears. It seems to occur after the browser runs for 2 days or more (difficult to give an exact window as I haven’t tracked it explicitly), and works normally after the browser is closed and reopened. I can’t say for certain that it isn’t the result of a specific action taken, but I haven’t noticed a pattern. I haven’t left the browser open and not used it at all, but this error does occur when the browser is used very lightly and left open.
@braddruzik,
I will dig into this a bit but this is a tricky one to track down given the lack of specificity and steps to reproduce. I’ll see if anyone else on the team has seen this or has a suggestion about why this might happen.
and successfully reproduced it using the steps there (open File->Save Page As, open File menu while file picker is open, close picker, check file menu)
I just reproduced it again on my Sonoma machine, in addition to this one which is using Mavericks. I have some app shortcuts defined for Brave, if that might make a difference.
Edit: from the linked issue: "After more testing, I’ve figured out that the bug only happens when there is a custom keyboard shortcut in the Mac system keyboard settings for the “Close All” menu item (see the attached screenshot). If you add the custom shortcut (the one highlighted in the screenshot), then restart chrome, then follow the repro steps, you should be able to reproduce it.
Because of that, it’s unclear whether this is a Chrome bug or a macOS bug. However, I tried adding a similar shortcut to other apps (Firefox, Safari, and Finder) and was unable to reproduce the same problem. It only seems to happen in Chromium browsers (Chrome and Edge)."
I see. Thank you for clarifying.
I’m inclined to think this is a Chromium issue and I’ve forwarded this info to some of our engineers to review and confirm. Appreciate your patience, will reply back here when I have more information.
