Cmd-w closes all tabs

Version 1.73.101 Chromium: 131.0.6778.139 (Official Build) (arm64)

I tried using a clean test profile and the problem was still there. I want to just be able to close a single tab with cmd-w, as was the case before.

As you can see in that chart, cmd-w on MacOS should close the current tab, not all tabs in the current window, so this just tells me what I already know.

@luhmann, I just want to confirm some things with you.

  1. When you’re using ⌘ + w to try to close a single tab, do you have multiple tabs open?

  2. If you press ⌘ + n does it open a new window or a new private window?

  3. If you go to brave://settings/system/shortcuts does it show ⌘ + w as the assigned shortcut for Close tab?

  4. If you were to install Brave Beta or Brave Nightly does this issue happen there as well?

Thanks for helping @Saoiray

  1. I have multiple tabs open
  2. New window. (Cmd-t opens a new tab)
  3. I installed Brave Beta and cmd-w works as expected in the beta.

Thanks for checking that, @luhmann.

  • I wanted to confirm multiple tabs were open, as a single tab should close the window. Just ensuring that’s not the cause of the issue.
  • I asked about a different command to check if something like “sticky keys” (e.g., for Shift on Windows) might be affecting it. If it opened in private mode, that could be a clue.
  • Since it works as intended on Beta, it’s not OS settings. This suggests the issue is either profile-specific or version-specific.

Given you tested another profile and the issue persisted, it’s likely a bug in the current version—unless changes were made to brave://flags or custom filters at brave://settings/shields/filters, which are shared across profiles.

The only thing I can think of that might interfere in brave://flags would be if you changed up Brave Commands. But I guess something to check.

The only thing I changed in brave://flags is to enable the “file system access API”
