Can't update the Brave browser

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open the Brave browser.
  2. Click on the 3 horizontal lines in the upper right hand corner.
  3. Click on About Brave.
  4. One of my Windows 10 PCs update the version w/ no issues. The other (newer) Windows 10 PC didn’t. It was stuck in hourglass mode.
  5. On the aforementioned 2nd PC User Account Control popped up and asked me to allow the Brave Update to make changes to my PC.
  6. I click YES and get this: An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 3: 0x80040154 – system level).

Expected result:
I expected the 2nd PC to upgrade Brave like the first one did.

Are you remoting into the 2nd PC (the failing one), or physically logged directly into it?

Is any antivirus or other security software, other than MS Defender, installed?

Try exiting Brave and restarting it again (or a couple of times) I’ve seen similar issues on Chrome doing the same thing previously.

Thank you. I am physically logging in to the 2nd PC. I am using Malwarebytes. (And I am using Malwarebytes on the first/older PC too and had no issues.)

Thank you. I have tried that a couple times and had no luck. I also re-started the PC. I’ll continue to try this in hopes it will eventually work.
