Downloaded Brave-Browser.dmg installer when clicked has message that states “Brave-Browser.dmg can’t be opened because it was not downloaded from the App Store.” I am trying to download to a Macbook Air with Catalina 10.15.7. When I search in the App Store, the Brave browser is no where to be found…help please11
Just out of curiosity, where did you download that from? That might be legitimate, I just don’t recall seeing a .dmg
before. Not like I have paid very close attention though.
Catalina reached end of life support. You can see where places have been shifting away from it, such as https://it.hms.harvard.edu/news/support-macos-catalina-ended-oct-30-upgrade-big-sur I’m not sure how that might impact Brave. Might need to see if @Mattches has an answer on that. Weirdly, I don’t see many articles on it as compared to articles about support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 ending.
For it to mention App Store, I’m guessing it’s seeing it like an iPhone or iPad? I know link to App Store with it is https://apps.apple.com/us/app/brave-private-web-browser/id1052879175
Otherwise you’d be downloading from https://brave.com/download/
If you can’t tell, I don’t know much at all regarding Mac. Just tried thinking and responding based on a few concepts. I’m hoping by tagging Mattches in he might have better answers for you.
@southweststeve,
Are you downloading the .dmg
from the official Brave download page?
Think I figured it out. A setting in General of my System Preferences had a box check to only allow things downloaded from the App Store. Once I checked “or selected websites” I got it. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing @southweststeve. Yet another thing I have learned exists within Mac, at least on Catalina! lol.
