There is a bug on web.whatsapp.com.
The QR (which you need to scan with WhatsApp on phone to connect) does NOT render in BRAVE.

Can’t reproduce this on Mojave or my Catalina VM… I’m wondering if it’s a rogue extension wreaking havoc on you… Does the URL work in a private window or maybe just clearing your cache, site content?
Just checked, it doesnt work in private window either.
Works in Safari and Chrome without any problems.
Have you set up brave to run certain extensions in private mode? Either way it seems that turning off all extensions, clearing cache, and seeing if the URL works will guarantee it’s not an extension issue. If the URL works, great, turn on extensions one at a time to locate the offending extension… if the URL doesn’t work, I don’t know what it could be as I don’t have issue with URL in either mojave or catalina…

Ah, good input megaspaz!
I turned off Brave Shields for that page and then it worked! 
Glad a solution presented itself for you… makes no sense to me since I didn’t have to turn off shields… but if that works for you…
