Description of the issue:
Brave Shield doesnt seem to block ads and go directly to the video. Now, when I click on a youtube video, it shows a black screen in place for the ad and doesnt allow me to skip
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open a new private tab in brave
  2. Go to youtube.com
  3. Go to a video and click on it

Expected result:
Clicking on the video should go directly to the video and not show a black screen

1.68
Mobile Device details
iPad 5th generation; iOS 16.7.10

@SaltyPear86, I don’t see a screen recording attached. The site can be picky about uploads, so that might be the issue, or perhaps the link was accidentally left out?

I just tested on my iPhone and couldn’t replicate the issue, but I know YouTube problems can be pretty random. Have you noticed if the black screen issue stops when you disable Shields? Also, have you tried adjusting any of your Shields settings?

Hi @Saoiray Thanks for getting back to me! I’ve uploaded the screen recording and let me know if you are able to view it.

  • I disabled shields and tried and I still see the black screen

  • I adjusted my shields settings to aggressive to see if that would help.

Okay, I can see the video now. It’s odd that Shields has no impact on the issue. I’m trying to think of what might be causing this. Unfortunately, many of the settings I’d suggest testing aren’t available on mobile devices, especially on iOS.

Just to clarify, does this issue occur on normal tabs as well, or only in private mode? Also, have you tried restarting your iPad?

  • I tested in normal tab and the same thing happens
  • I restarted my iPad and tested in normal as well as private and the same thing happens.

I’ve rolled out some updates for youtube ios, give it 12hrs or so. May need to restart the browser.

@fanboynz I restarted Brave and still no luck. Is there anything else I could try? Thank you!

Tested various mr breast videos (usually good for getting preroll ads). None seen here. Unable to see any ads, Ensure shields is up?

Tested on an older ipad pro, 3rd gen.
