Brave icon not displaying on Windows Taskbar

Description of the issue:
Brave icon is not present on taskbar button to open brave browser. Instead it is a default icon of a blank sheet.
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Drag brave application to taskbar

Expected result:
Brave icon shows on taskbar icon button
Brave Version( check About Brave):

Version 1.43.93 Chromium: 105.0.5195.127 (Official Build) (64-bit)

I’ve seen this with other Windows apps as well.

I’m not sure what causes it, but usually the easiest thing to do is:

  1. Close the app
  2. Unpin the ‘blank’ one from the taskbar
  3. Start the app back up
  4. re-‘pin’ it using the newly launched app

Negative, that did not affect the issue. I just did a full uninstall and reinstall, but this workaround shouldn’t really be necessary… Thanks anyway. It works now.

The above suggestions didn’t work for me. I ended up uninstalling and then reinstalling Brave. The taskbar icon is now back to normal.

Update: It’s the pinning action that causes the Brave taskbar icon to disappear. Reinstalling Brave corrects the problem, but pinning the Brave icon to the taskbar causes it to get lost again.

Update: Finally got this thing fixed for good. I had to completely uninstall Brave.

  1. Uninstall Brave as per usual–delete all user data.

  2. Reboot to safe mode.

  3. Delete folders associated with Brave.

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\BraveSoftware
    • C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming
    • C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
  4. Search registry (regedit) and delete all keys related to Brave.

  5. Normal reboot, and install Brave as per normal.
