Brave for Android constantly crashing in background

Description of the issue:
Brave for Android keeps crashing in background, when I’m not using it and I need to force the app in the setting for it to stop.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open Brave
  2. Change App or go to Android Home Menu

Expected result:
Android will show an error message saying that Brave has crashed and asking if I want to close the app or send feedback.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave 1.5.1, Chromium 78.0.3904.96

Mobile Device details
Android 8.0.0; LG G6

Additional Information:
[Edit] I have Brave rewards and Brave notifications enabled.

Is sync also enabled? If you turn off Rewards does the crashing stop?

Hey, sorry for the late response, I was testing what you told me and it seems like it worked. I only got one crash in these 5 days vs the 5 crashes per day I was getting with Rewards turned on.

Ok could you try one more thing for me please. Re-enable rewards, clear browsing data from the app and then go to settings->apps-> brave-> force stop the app and then restart the app and check if its still causing the crash

Hi sriram, I’ve been using Brave after doing what you wrote but sadly it seems that the crashes returned.

It seems that it has to do with rewards being enabled, still just got only one crash when rewards were off.

I see you are on 1.5.1, Could you try updating Brave to 1.5.2 and see if the crashing still continues?
