Brave crashes on LinkedIn feed load/scroll

Description of the issue:

Whilst logged into LinkedIn, scrolling the feeds (or sometimes even staying on a page), the tab crashes with “Error code: 5”.
The only fix is to reload the page, which is still not the desired behaviour.
Even clearing the cache or using incognito mode didn’t resolve the issue.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

  • Log into LinkedIn
  • Start scrolling feeds

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Just the broken page with “Can’t open this page” and “Error code: 5”, a link to this page https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018192251-How-do-I-fix-page-crashes-and-other-page-loading-errors- and all.
Many times, the same issue happens simultaneously on different tabs using LinkedIn.
I am mentioning LinkedIn as it happened there. However, I’m not sure if it happens on other websites.

Expected result:

Not to crash and keep loading and showing contents.

Reproduces how often:

Every time I scroll a few tens pages on LinkedIn.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

I’m on a Macbook Pro (Apple M1 Max), and macOS Monterey v12.6 (21G115).
Brave Version 1.44.105 Chromium: 106.0.5249.91 (Official Build) (arm64)

Additional Information:

Nothing else

Hi @boring-process

Thank you for reaching out and sorry to hear you’re having trouble with logged into LinkedIn, just one question is this happening only with this website or with others? and could you kindly follow the steps below:

  1. Check if shields is in aggressive mode and if it is, please disable the option.
  2. Verify that block scrips is disable.
  3. Please try disabling Hardware Acceleration in settings to see if this resolves the issue.
You’ll find this in Settings --> Additional Settings --> System --> Hardware Acceleration

Let me know if that works. I will be pending, have a nice day!

Hi @Alice2095 ,
Thank you for your response and apologies for reply so late, but I didn’t see the message notification.

I’ve disabled HW acceleration and it sorted out a long series of issues I was experiencing:

  • LinkedIn Scroll (related to this post)
  • CSS completely broken, e.g. Google’s dropdown bgcolor was transparent, calendar was struggling loading lines, colours etc
  • GMail was not logging in and asking to clear cache and cookies

For completeness, I have “Standard” mode in shields and Block scripts is disabled.

I’ve finally sorted out as you said, “disabling HW acceleration”!

Thank you so much!! It was essential for me to sort this out and today I’m really happy!

Have a great rest of the week!

Hello @boring-process

I’m more than happy to help you and have a nice day!
