Brave browser Adblocker blocks scripts

Hi there!
I’m presenting an IT-company that develops widgets. We noticed an issue with your browser Adblock and our widgets, so I hope you can assist us.

Recently our clients informed us that the Brave browser app for IOS started blocking our widgets. Here you can check the sites examples - https://www.alovida.es/, https://micuerpopideroce.com/.

On the Homepages you can see sections with Google Reviews - these are our widgets. In the Brave IOS browser these blocks are not visible at all. We have done some tests and we see that on Android the issue is not present. Also, the widgets start to display on IOS if you turn off the toggle for Brave Shields.

Here is the part of our scripts that gets blocked:
<script src="https://static.elfsight.com/platform/platform.js" data-use-service-core defer></script>

The clients claim that it worked perfectly before, so maybe it’s connected with some recent updates. We reproduced the issue on iPhones 12 and 13, the Brave app version is 1.63(180).

Is it possible for you to check on the issue and add our scripts to a whitelist, so the widgets are successfully displayed in the IOS app with the Brave Shields enabled?

Thanks!

This domain is blocked due to privacy/tracking, shouldn’t stop the site from working correctly. Should remove any dependancies to elfsight to ensure it works without it, Having site depend on tracking script not good.

Hello Ryan,

Thank you for your comment! I need to say that the information that our service uses is necessary for the widgets to work correctly. Also, our security standards are up-to-date and we make certain that it stays that way.

We ensure that any info, collected for the proper widgets functioning, is highly secured in regard to privacy and protection of personal data, stored only for 7 days and is not used for any marketing or tracking purposes. You can find more detail about that on our Privacy Policy page - https://elfsight.com/privacy-policy/.

Unfortunately, removing dependencies on this script is not possible, so this solution won’t resolve the issue for our clients.

What’s more, the issue is not presented in other browsers or the Brave Search app on Android devices. So we’d highly appreciate if the Brave team checks the issue more carefully on their end.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Ryan @fanboynz !

Could you please let me know if there are any updates or any recommendations from the Brave team on the issue? Unfortunately, we haven’t received any replies on the latest message and we’d really appreciate support from the Brave side in this matter.

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I’ve re-reviewed this, we’re not blocking this.

@fanboynz Hi Ryan,

Thank you for the reply!

I rechecked this and found out the following.

On desktop browser the elfsight script indeed doesn’t get blocked with Shields up. The only variant when the widget is not displayed is when you configure additional settings for Shields and the ‘Block scripts’ toggle is enabled.
Meanwhile, if the trackers & ads settings are set to “Block trackers & ads” or “Aggressively block trackers & ads”, the widget is still displayed.

On iOS mobile app, however, the widget only appears on the site if you disable “Trackers & Ads Blocking”. The “Block Scripts” toggle doesn’t influence the page loading anyhow - either enabled or disabled, the widget doesn’t show up until “Trackers & Ads Blocking” is off. Here is a screencast - https://monosnap.com/file/RZeLYBid9MukOw1OV3iQHgLu37ctha.

So, the Trackers & Ad blocker acts differently in desktop and mobile browser versions (only iOS, there is no such issue on Android). Could you please tell me why it’s that and how to make the script loading on mobile with “Trackers & Ads Blocking” enabled?

Thanks!

Hi Ryan @fanboynz,

Sorry for bothering you, yet maybe you had a chance to look through my latest message? Are there any news or insights that I can share with our team?

Thank you for assistance!
