Brave Beta Shield down by default

Description: Open a new Brave Beta browser (Version 1.38.90 - 64 bit on Windows 10) and navigate to a never before visited website. Notice that Shields are down by default. Shields appear to be down for all websites unless I manually check the toggle button. How do we resolve this issue?

Reproduce Issue: Install a new Brave Beta browser ver 1.38.90 64 bit on a windows 10 machine and navigate to a news website like CNN. Shields are down by default.

Expected result: Shields are ON by default

Have you thought about updating to the newest version?

Same here. Why in the world is the DEFAULT Shields down.

It makes the brave browser more than useless now.

Now it’s dangerous.

I can’t use this.

Very disappointed, Brave was my favorite browser.

I have the same issue. I know for a fact it’s updated to the most current version, yet regardless of updates, this issue has persisted for over a month. A big part of Brave is its shields. Having them down by default makes the user experience less seamless as you have to activate it for every single site.

@pmm150

In order to restore the Shields UP default setting . . .

In a Brave Browser > New Window, go to: brave://settings/clearBrowserData

Advanced tab:

  • Set ‘Time range’ to: All time
  • Enable: Site and Shields Settings
  • Clear data

Return to: brave://settings/clearBrowserData

Advanced tab:

  • Set ‘Time range’ to: All time
  • Disable: Site and Shields Settings
  • Clear data

Restart Brave Browser

(The “Clear data” button also saves the selections.)

PS. @JhonBlank found the solution:
