Bookmarks keywords

Hi,
Something I miss from another browser ( the one with the fox logo) is the ability to access bookmarks using keywords in the address bar. I wish there were a “Keyword” field to fill when creating or editing bookmarks.

For example, being able to just type “bc” in the address bar instead of the first letters of community.brave.com. This makes browsing so much faster than reaching the bookmarks using the mouse or typing lots of letters in the address bar.

Currently, it can be done with a workaround by creating a new custom search engine and assigning a keyword to it. Still, it’s not convenient nor quick to do.

Thanks for examining my request.

Very good one! It’s the only thing I miss right now (trying to switch form the “other” browser, the one with the circle icon). Are there any news on this feature? Is it in development stage?

Hey @Utsuro, I just found out that there’s actually a workaround for this. You can add the bookmark as a custom “serch engine”! Just head over “settings” and “manage search engine”, over there you can add you bookmark as it was a search engine (I mean, the same thing you do within firefox or chrome, when you add the bookmark with a %s parameter triggered with a keyword). The behaviour is exactly the same, you just have to add them as a custom search engine. I just tried it and it works great! Let me know what you think about it!

Hi,
Thanks for the answers. I figured this out a while ago and while it works as expected, i don’t think it’s as intuitive as just adding a keyboard shortcut in a bookmark menu, especially when you don’t want to use the search function of said website.
Now my search engine options page is clutterd with custom search engines.
This doesn’t seem to raise much interest so I guess nothing will be done about it.

I agree, actually after the first enthusiasm I found this wordaround not so good honestly. Beside the problem you mentioned it’s also a bit clunky to sync search engines, while bookmarks sync pretty well. I guess we still need to wait for this…

This is also something I miss a lot and maybe a blocker to not leave FF completely.
I suspect the low number of requests/votes has also to do with the fact that it’s a feature which is not very known to many users, unless they already used that browser.

The search engine shortcut is not a valid workaround.
Besides some reasons already mentioned by a few users, it would only allow 1 keyword.
The functionality on FF allows several keywords/tags/labels, with and without spaces.
I find it very powerful because you don’t have to even worry to much on wich folder of the bookmarks it’s saved, you just need to remember some of the labels you marked it with.

Yeah, I’d love to have this feature. It is clunky to use search engine for that and I think it would be useful for a lot, if the people were aware of it.
