Keyboard shortcut for bookmarks

I am a new user.
As a more keyboard oriented user, having to navigate to a menu with a mouse is not very productive.

Hi @A_B,

Welcome to community! Have you had a chance to check out our list of shortcuts? - https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032272171-What-keyboard-shortcuts-can-I-use-in-Brave-.

Thank you for that suggestion.

I did try the bookmarks list option but there I found that even though I was able to tab to a bookmark and highlight it I was not able to find a method besides clicking it with the mouse to activate it.

I have the same problem. I know it’s stupid, but I’m so used to using Safari to quickly navigate between the webpages I need to access quickly for work, and I love the Safari feature where you can hit command + option + # to open the equivalent bookmark from the bookmark bar. The only ways I’ve found to do this in Brave are janky workarounds with keyboard shortcut extensions. Is there an easy way for me to add this functionality?

Anybody have any insights for me? To be clear: I’m running Mac OS, and I would love to have the Safari functionality where hitting Command + Option + 1 opens my first bookmark in the bookmark bar, Command + Option + 2 opens the second bookmark in the bar, etc.

I’m open to workarounds but I dislike browser extensions with keyboard shortcuts because 1- I haven’t been able to get them to work in Brave and 2- they go to static links instead of whichever link is occupying the equivalent space in the bookmark bar. Any help is appreciated.

I am here to support this feature request. You can switch between tabs quickly, but it would be nice to be able to rapidly go to your bookmark bar items. This would improve my workflow efficiency. Otherwise, great job. Love the browser.

The keyboard shortcut feature I’m missing most is the ability to seach my bookmarks by typing * [space] in the address bar, like I’m able to do in Firefox. Actually Firefox also lets you type ^ [space] to search your browsing history. Both are extremely handy features available right from the address bar. Could we have that sort of keyboard shortcuts in Brave please?

The whole Search Shortcut behaviour with its ability to switch from the address bar (e.g. if I type “g weather” it does a Google search on “weather” since I’ve configured “g” to be a shortcut to switch to Google for that search) is for me the killer feature in Firefox, which would pull me back to Firefox if Brave wasn’t so good at everything else…

@14geronimo any reason why you’re not creating the shortcut then? You can look through discussion I had with someone else on this at Edit Search Shortcuts

You can always add and edit bangs/shortcuts for searches at brave://settings/searchEngines

And unrelated to this topic, but you also have a lot of customization in adding or editing keyboard shortcuts for a variety of functions in the browser by going to brave://settings/system/shortcuts

This works like a treat, I also followed the linked post. I set it all up in Brave for Windows on my laptop. I also use Brave on my Android phone, both are linked as I’m seeing my bookmarks on both and so on. The Search Engine settings however don’t seem to carry over to Android, and there’s no setting allowing me to reconfigure my shortcuts. The address bar URL
brave://settings/searchEngines
also returns a 404 there. What an I missing?

I think original request here - and this is what I also missing very much in Brave - is to have shortcut for specific bookmark, so when you want to open your often used bookmark instead of typing name of a website, you can type only 2-3 letters in address bar and it would take your there. In Firefox it is called keyword and Vivaldi calls it nickname. Would be really great to have it in Brave too.
