There is an Ask [for permission to paste] / Allow [paste] / Deny [paste] - Paste from Other Apps -type of function for pasting a copied URL address into the URL address field of Brave Browser (iOS).
I have the iOS > Settings > Brave Browser selection set to Ask. The Paste from Other Apps selector switch steps:
When pasting into the Brave Browser URL address field, a small pop-up/prompt would display - with my setting (Ask) giving me the choice of (“Don’t Allow Paste / Allow Paste”) . . . 20250712: I now have a screenshot of the type of prompt that is supposed to appear - borrowed from using Vivaldi:
In the Brave Browser (iOS) case, “Brave” would like to paste from “Vivaldi” ← That choice is now missing in action at the BB iOS URL address field activity.
Toggling between the selections (screenshot above), complete Quit of BB app, “forced” / “hard” Restart of iPhone ← did not fix the issue.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Expected result:
Brave Version( check About Brave):
BB (iOS) 1.79 (124)
Mobile Device details
Apple iPhone 14; iOS v18.5
Additional Information:
Brave Browser - Private Browsing Only - Standard Browsing . . . problem exists for both.
What does display, are a choice of “Paste” or “AutoFill” . . . and there is a panel of Favorites.
Sorry for missing this thread initially.
Just to make sure I understand correctly, you’re saying that even with the Ask option enabled in Settings, trying to paste copied content from another application into Brave does not display the notification you’d expect to see (where it asks for your permission to perform the action, as shown in your Vivaldi screenshot) – correct?
However it does work if you copy/paste content from Brave into another browser/app.
And . . . if pasting into another application URL address field, like Vivaldi’s, the “Don’t Allow Paste / Allow Paste” does correctly display (<-- is how I was able to take that screenshot). So, the iOS setting is working, but is not “respected” by BB (iOS).
@289wk so basically what’s happening here is that when you paste data in Brave, it references a special paste “identifier”, specifically designated by Apple, to paste from the user’s clipboard – thus not showing the prompt. Brave carries these same identifiers, which is why you’re not seeing the prompt. Whereas Vivaldi likely is not, which is why you will see the prompt.
In Brave, you should see the prompt in only a couple of instances:
the Paste and Go button on the URL bar when the url bar is empty
the paste button in the Wallet send transaction screen
The Paste and Go button does not appear - as it previously would behave - on the URL bar when the url bar is empty; instead, as shown above, and now below > I get the following (Paste | AutoFill):
And that has been the case, since a recent BB (iOS) version 1.79 (124) update.
UPDATE: I copied a URL address from a Brave Browser bookmark that is for a non-Brave website (some topic I have already forgotten, because I am trying to get back here, quickly) . . . and did a long-press of the empty URL address field.
THEN, I did get the Paste and Go button.
But the Don’t Allow Paste / Allow Paste prompt is still missing in action.
I am not worried about that; I was just trying to report - originally - in order to help you guys after the mentioned BB (iOS) version 1.79 (124) update ← when Brave devs produced the enlarged Favorites region that allows for more icons/widgets (about which there have been complaints).
I did a complete un-install of BB (iOS) and all data, all settings; followed by a forced Restart of the iPhone 14. Followed by a fresh installation of BB (iOS) Version 1.80.1 (121).
In the iPhone Settings > Brave Browser, the following Paste from other apps setting is now gone:
Re the empty URL address field, the Paste & Go button no longer appears. There is no long-press ability/function. I only get the following (Paste | AutoFill):
