Auto-Contribute Automatically Enabled after Error

Briefly describe your issue:
I have explicitly opted out of auto contributions many months ago. I have verified this numerous times in the past across all devices. However, today, after an error, Auto-Contribute turned on and two withdraws were made from my Gemini account to Brave Grants, both within a second of each other.

While losing 2 BAT isn’t a huge deal, I want to understand what bug led to this and how do I ensure I don’t lose any more.

More details:
Brave rewards showed an error along the lines that it wasn’t able to deposit this month’s Brave Ad Rewards into my linked and verified Gemini account. I clicked on the manage button in the Brave Rewards header then clicked “verifying” as this has resolved issues before. I was already verified, but it still processed the linking request then showed me some message about the operation in progress (I wish I had the actual wording). For good measure, I did this operation again to make sure it wasn’t an transient bug.

I then scroll down and I see that Auto-Contribute is now on. It was off before I’ve checked it numerous times. I then check out Gemini and I see that 2 BAT have now been withdrawn. I also check my other devices and Auto-Contribute is still off there.

How do I ensure that I don’t lose more to Auto-Contribute turning itself on? It’d be great to recover the loss, but I’m more worried about this occurring again.

I’m not sure. Been using Gemini since it was offered on Brave. Been using Brave Rewards since a few months before Gemini support.

yes. However, it turned back on after an error leading to the issue.
