Address bar autocomplete is hanging

Description of the issue:
When clicking in the address bar on either a new or existing tab, the browser hangs for up to a minute as I start typing. I’ve seen this behavior on two different Windows systems. As long as I am not attempting to enter text into the address bar, the browser is speedy. Even opening a new tab and selecting one of the prepopulated links in the brave homepage works just fine.
I have a workaround for this issue: by disabling autocomplete entirely for the address bar, the issue is resolved. I’ve tried disabling every autocomplete option except for “history” and the issue persisted. Once I disabled the parent setting “Show autocomplete suggestions in address bar” - the issue disappeared.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Ensure that Settings → Appearance → Show autocomplete suggestions in address bar is turned on
  2. Open a new or existing tab
  3. Start typing in the address bar

Expected result:
Suggestions populate in the address bar immediately, without locking the browser up for 30-90 seconds

Update. While disabling the autocomplete option seems to have worked around this issue on one of my systems, it isn’t doing anything for my desktop system, which still hangs terribly when I click into the address bar.

Most troubling is that links work just fine. Click on a link in the homepage of a new tab, or on any link in whatever page you are on, and it goes quickly to the destination, but click in the URL bar, and it hangs.

Same Problem here since some weeks.
Brave on Debian 12.8 KDE.
Version 1.73.89
Disabled Autocomplete suggestions have no effect.

Same problem for weeks.
Clicking or typing in the address bar freezes the browser for many seconds. Happens with the latest Brave version on Windows 11.
Strangely, this doesn’t happen on my other PC with Windows 11.
I’ve tried a few things like disabling the extensions, disabling autocomplete, setting Google as the only search engine, using the beta version, resetting all setting to default… nothing works.
Usually I do not have the issue after rebooting the computer, but it starts happening after some time.

Same with me. Disabling autocomplete doesn’t make a difference. Started about a week ago. Before that, everything was fine.
Sometimes it works normal, but 80% of the time I see the freeze. Clearing cookies and browsing history and all that stuff hasn’t made a difference either.

I’m on Fedora 41, Gnome 47, and Brave 1.73.97

Upgraded to 1.73.101 this morning and the issue is still there.
Even if you have a tab that you opened previously and loaded a page, when you come back to that tab and click on the search bar, it freezes for a few seconds.
