Adblocking not working anymore in 1.4.1

Description of the issue:
Ad blocking not working anymore in Brave 1.4.1.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Got to any one of these websites with ad blocking enabled: https://forbes.com, https://ads-blocker.com/testing/, https://chip.de, https://knowyourmeme.com

Expected result:
With adblocking enabled you should see no or almost no ads.

Actual result:
Ads can be spotted everywhere on the websites.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
1.4.1

Mobile Device details
Android 5.02 and 9

Additional Information:
Broken since 1.4.1. Previous version works fine.

@Brave_user can you share a screenshot of the issue? Also did you install Brave from Play Store? The latest version is 1.4.0.

Seems to work fine for me on 1.4.1.

Do you mind adding a screenshot? Did you do a clean install or an upgrade?

Testing on my end, gong to ads-blocker.com/testing – in Chrome [left img] vs in Brave [right img] the page displays:

I did of course not do a clean install. I would lose all bookmarks, settings and history since Brave does not offer any backup and restore options. And I upgraded from the Github repo not the Playstore.

But as I just found out I did not install 1.4.1 on my Android 9 device (just forgot to execute the apk). After having it installed now I see that on Android 9 version 1.4.1 works fine and does not show the problem. I use the mono version on Android 9.

On Android 5.0.2 I use the modern version of Brave. I’m not having this device at my disposal right now. So I cannot send you a screenshot at the moment. But I can assure you it looks exactly like the screenshot from the Chrome browser in @Mattches post … showing all kinds of ads.

I think I have found the bug: I have disabled adblocking by default and activate it on a by site basis.

If I enable adblocking by default all ads are going to be filtered as it is expected. If I disable adblocking by default all ads are going to be shown even when I enable adblocking for a certain website.

Ah ok. Thanks for the steps. I’ll have a look at it

This seems to be an issue with Global shields settings not being able to work with shields. I’ve logged an issue. Please track it there. Thanks for the report. Going to close this thread. Please open a new thread for any other issues you may find on 1.4.1. Very much appreciate the help in early testing
