Web pages following system theme for dark mode

I would really like Brave to follow the system theme for dark mode on webpages. Currently the experimental Night Mode leaves web pages dark all the time, even when the system theme is in day mode. There has been a topic on this here:

Has there been any progress in this matter yet?
