Video Auto-Detect Chooses Low Quality

Description of the issue:
When using a video service that auto-detects bandwidth and scales up or down the video resolution depending on the selection, it chooses to go with the lowest bandwidth option, despite plenty of bandwidth in the connection. Manually changing the setting (when available) shows no issues in streaming.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Go to YouTube.com and watch a video. It will auto-detect and start playing video at 360p

Expected result:
Video will detect bandwidth and start playing video at 1080p

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.24.85 Chromium: 90.0.4430.212 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
Running Windows 10 Pro.
Bandwidth at router - 1Gpbs
Bandwidth at computer - 200Mbps (tested with fast.com)

Hi there @Chumly, welcome to Community :smiley:

Unfortunately, this is not a Brave browser related issue. With further digging it looks like majority of the video streaming platforms like Youtube and Netflix are switching to standard def and not auto detecting to high def to control the internet traffic. https://www.fiercevideo.com/video/youtube-will-scale-back-video-quality-for-all-global-users
