Unable to update to latest version of Brave

@tantwan

While your Brave Rewards wallet/account is no longer verified over a link to your Custodial Wallet Provider and exchange, Gemini . . .

Then vBAT should accumulate in your [therefore] unverified Brave Rewards wallet.

Meanwhile, BAT that accumulated in your account at Gemini, should still be there . . . but you are not assured, yet.

UPDATING TO LATEST VERSION OF BRAVE

You might try using the Windows OS > Troubleshoot Compatibility process:

https://www.thewindowsclub.com/programs-compatibility-wizard-in-windows-7

Make sure that you are not blocking the source for automatic Brave Browser Stable Release Updates:

  • updates-cdn.bravesoftware.com

Before proceeding further, Disable all Extensions that you may have installed.

Before proceeding further, using a Brave Browser > New Window, go to: brave://flags/ . . . and write down all of the flags that you may have Enabled. After writing your list, then click on the Reset all button . . . and after doing that, close the windows, Exit / Quit Brave Browser, and Restart your computer.

Clearing DNS cache

Option A

In a Brave Browser > New Window, go to: brave://net-internals/#dns and click on ‘Clear host cache’

Next, go to: brave://net-internals/#sockets and click on both of the following (in succession):

  • Close idle sockets
  • Flush socket pools

Exit / Quit Brave Browser

Exit / Quit everything else and Restart your computer.

Option B

How to flush DNS cache in Windows OS: ‘https://www.wikihow.com/Flush-DNS

How to flush DNS cache in Mac OS: In a Terminal.app window, enter at the prompt:

dscacheutil -flushcache

Exit / Quit everything else and Restart your computer.

Notes re what are:

DNS cache:

Socket pool:

With pooling, instead of closing a connection after it is used, we can keep it idle while it waits to handle another request. This saves the resources required to create a new connection.

In a Brave Browser > New Window, go to: brave://settings/security

  • DISABLE: Always use secure connections (HTTPS ONLY toggle switch)

Note, while at: brave://settings/security you might also:

  • DISABLE: Use secure DNS

Recommended in order to reduce influence by websites:

  • File editing: Don't allow sites to edit files or folders on your device
  • Clipboard: Don't allow sites to see text or images on your clipboard
  • Window placement: Don't allow sites use info about your screens to open and place windows

Scroll down to Content . . . and set:

  • Pop-ups and redirects: Don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects

Recommended, go to: brave://settings/cookies

  • Enable: Block third-party cookies
  • Disable: Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows
  • Do not use: Sites that clear cookies when you close them (better to clear those cookie sites/sources, manually: brave://settings/clearBrowserData)

MAKE BACKUPs

Back up the BraveSoftware folder that you see in the path:

Backup Software and Tips

Some of the backup software, has the ability to schedule backups, and you might want to use that scheduling.

Include date and time in the backup filename. For example:

  • 20220629-1627_BraveSoftware_fldr_bkup.zip

  • BraveSoftware_fldr_bkup_20220629-1627.zip

I strongly recommend that backups be stored on an attached, external hard drive.

OK to also locate backups on your computer - as long as the backups are OUTSIDE of the path of the Brave Browser installation. You might create a new directory on your computer, for such storage (Windows OS example):

  • C:\Important_Backups\

Export your Bookmarks - using the Brave Browser > Bookmarks Manager.

Export Passwords to .CSV file. If you cannot figure out how to do that, then @CerealLover can probably inform you, re what to do.
