UI Change on Youtube Screwed Up Playlist Thumbnails

YouTube decided to remove the awful UI but for a while, the playlist thumbnails don’t appear anymore but you still can click them and they work as intended and some channels still have them load.

I’m on Windows 7. Brave version 1.47.186 Chromium: 109.0.5414.119 (Official Build) (32-bit)

Was this moved there?

You are using an older version (1.47.186 Chromium: 109.0.5414.119 (Official Build) (32-bit)) of Brave Browser (Windows OS). And, a search for the word “playlist” in the title of posts, here, at the Brave Community forum . . . might bring you up-to-date on recent (or older) “playlist” issues.

Might give you an idea on a course of action (or non-action because there is some bug to be solved); but at least, your search would discover that there has recently been a burst of reported problems or dis-satisfaction with “playlist.”

I’m not speaking on the matter of the Brave playlist at all as that’s a feature I can’t use on this old version nor on Android. This is happening on YouTube across the site that I noticed recently. I checked a couple of the posts and only one other mentioned missing thumbnails and some loading. There was no fix posted in it.

Noting your:

“I’m not speaking on the matter of the Brave playlist at all as that’s a feature I can’t use on this old version nor on Android.”

And, in your Original Post title:

UI Change on Youtube . . .”

is not clear - and you would help your cause by narrowing that down to, you believe the problem to be one of:

  • UI Change at YouTube, by YouTube
  • UI Change on YouTube, by Brave Browser

In general, your issue seems, therefore, to be:

YouTube playlist thumbnails don’t appear anymore (but you still can click them and they work as intended)

Three more searches, looking for the status of “youtube” AND “playlist”:

At Brave Community

https://community.brave.com/search?q=youtube%20playlist%20in%3Atitle%20order%3Alatest

At GitHub > Brave-Browser > issue (terms appear in issue and/or title):

https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues?q=is%3Aissue+youtube+playlist+sort%3Aupdated-desc

At GitHub > Brave-Browser > issue in:title (terms appear in title):

https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues?q=is%3Aissue+in%3Atitle+youtube+playlist+sort%3Aupdated-desc+

If there was a fix, the combined results of the suggested searches, would probably include that fix - if somehow, somewhere, an adjustment of Brave Browser would affect that.

But there might be something to do with an extension or adblock rules, affecting your issue.

And that may be worth more study, by your testing:

  • a 2nd Brave Browser Profile (during which testing, you close all windows associated with your initial Brave Browser Profile)

  • disabling extensions

  • using a Brave Browser New Window, vs

  • using a Brave Browser New Private Window

I managed to narrow it down to a user style I use called AdashimaaTube which allows me to customize elements of YouTube such as the homepage. Turning it off makes everything the way it should be sans the homepage as now it’s a mess due to sponsored ads being show and the rows have gaps and are 3 videos a row. I cannot contact the person involved and file a bug report as the github page is read-only and has been for months. There was an update last month so they have to have been doing something with it. If not for the homepage issue, I’d shut this thing off and had been fine.
I got some screenshots to show what’s wrong.

If a script can make the homepage like AdashimaaTube’s, I’ll disable the style as other elements aren’t functioning anymore due to YouTube’s changes.
