Tab groups lost / forgotten

Description of problem
I have Brave start from where I left off, but I’m noticing lately tabs are ‘leaving’ their respective tab groups between sessions. For instance, at work I have my personal tabs - email, calendar, etc. and a work one. When I re-open Brave, all but one of the tabs are no longer in their respective tab groups. They’re still there, just not organized as I left them.

I started using tab groups sometime last year, and don’t recall how I set it up. I use the Alternate Tab Order extension, but that has nothing to do with groups. None of my other extensions should effect tabs or tab groups.

How can this issue be reproduced?
Restarting Brave.

Expected result:
Tab groups intact

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.35.103 Chromium: 98.0.4758.102 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
I have no idea how I set up the tab groups or how to

You should update to the newest version of Brave, version 1.36.109, and see if that solves the problem if you haven’t already. I tried searching related topics here and on the Brave GitHub and couldn’t find anything specific or related so do not know why you suddenly started dropping a tab from your group. The GitHub issues can be searched here (I left my search query up when I copied the link):

If you right click on a tab, either in a group or not, you will get tab grouping options.

Thanks for your reply. I had typed this out last week and saved it as a draft. Then I saw the “Save tab” switch option when you right click the tab group. I thought that would fix it, but it did not. Since then my version updated itself to the current one > [Version 1.36.109 Chromium: 99.0.4844.51 (Official Build) (64-bit]

Right, I guess I didn’t add anything to set it up. It was built-in! But all of them refuse to save for some reason. What’s weird is my bookmark folders turned into links that will open a bunch of tabs when clicked. You have to right click to get the drop-down selection.

If I click on “BMW”, which used to be a standard bookmark folder (with vintage BMW motorcycle links), it’ll open the 12 bookmarks each in a new tab. That’s not right either, but right clicking is an okay workaround. I have to right click to get to the list.

Huh, I don’t have a “Save Tab” option. Do you have any of the flags relating to tabs enabled? You can check at brave://flags. I don’t use anything but standard options and I don’t see that, so now I’m wondering why you have that option before/after the update and I don’t!

My bookmarks are not functioning as you describe either. Do you have any other flags enabled that may impact that? Like the Reading List flag description says:

Click on the Bookmark icon or right click on a tab to add tabs to a reading list. – Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Fuchsia
#read-later

I don’t use Reading List either, but I’m wondering if you do and that is somehow impacting your Bookmarks. So the Bookmark links started working that way only after the update?

What version of windows are you using?

Thanks again for the follow up!

I did have this flag enabled: ### Tab Groups Save

Changing that back to default fixed the 2nd problem I mentioned, and removed the “save tabs” toggle from right-clicking on the tab group. However, my tab groups are still being undone. :disappointed:

This is my work computer, administered by our ISS department. I actually have an admin login, though, if needed

eek, way over my head! lol

Glad that one was fixed any!

Mine are working as intended when I have brave://settings toggled to Continue where you left off. The only other thing I can think of is, if you have any extensions enabled, an extension might be interfering for some reason. You can try disabling your extensions and seeing if that fixes the problem. If it does, you can re-enable one at a time to find the culprit or maybe the problem just disappears! That would be nice. lol

Otherwise, you can tag the moderators to see if they have a solution. They don’t work on weekends. They drop in every now and then, but not often. Just tag them next week and hopefully they can help.
