Sync stopped working

Recently I’ve been getting the error “Brave could not access your operating system’s safe storage” when starting Brave. (Windows 11)

Sync is not working, and trying to re-set it up again just gets me in an endless loop directing me to the sync help screen, which tells me to open setup-sync, which sends me back the the help screen. I cannot disable and restart sync, I cannot see the sync chain
