Removing Tor browsing using Group Policy

Hey everyone, I’ve tried multiple times to disable Tor browsing by making a custom registry file as shown on this page: https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039248271-Group-Policy

However I’ve been unsuccessful, so I would appreciate if someone can post step by step instructions on how this is done. Thank you!

I’m on Windows x64, and my Brave version is the latest:
Version 1.30.86 Chromium: 94.0.4606.61 (Official Build) (64-bit)

@Renivius,
Step by step instructions are on that page – what exactly seems to be the issue? At which point do you find yourself getting stuck?

Well first off I’m unsure if I’m supposed to take the file that I downloaded and just modify that “example” registry file, or should I create a brand new .reg file? I’ve tried to create a new registry file with lines as follows:

  1. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave
  3. “TorDisabled”=1

But that did nothing obviously. Also I find that page confusing too, the steps are basically 1. Download the templates, look at example 2. Create your own values and deploy. I think that’s what I did but I’m obviously missing something, which is why I ask. Thanks for the quick response!

@Renivius,
I believe that you can actually just edit the registry manually via regedit. There, change the tor disabled value to 1, save and you should be good to go. Unless there’s something you’re trying to do that I’m missing here

Well that’s what I thought as well, but I can’t find the registry file that I’m supposed to find. As you can see from the screenshot the folder is not located here.
