Why are we having ads opening new tab on the latest version of brave… I know that wasn’t allowed in the past version. Why are we having it now ? is this a new feature or it is some sort of bug .
Hello - Sponsored images on New Tabs can be disabled under the Customize
button in the bottom-left corner on each new tab page.
When You click on some certain page or navigating a webpage it automatically open a tab directing to an ads or commercial sells. this wasnt avalable earlier.
Do you have any extensions in your current Brave profile? I have a feeling it’s an extension trying to get your attention.
Check here first:
brave://extensions/
and see what’s in there and if there is anything that looks similar to what you’re seeing in new tabs… and/or maybe take a screenshot of what’s there for us to help determine things for you too.
I might also suggest creating a TEMPORARY new profile and seeing if it happens there too though… to do so:
- Click the three lines (sometimes referred to as the hamburger/sandwich menu) at the top right.
- More Tools
- Add New Profile
- Setup name/photo/color theme/etc.
- Then test under that new profile if your problem is still persisting.
This is a new profile no extention any yet there some web pages that still opens new tab for ads, this was never with Brave and I hope thi get fixed soon. Does anyone has a link to the previous version so i can downgrade this instead. Thank you
I’m quite surprised it’s still happening in a New Profile…
May I suggest you run a Safety Check here: brave://settings/safetyCheck
and/or found right at the bottom of ‘Privacy & Security’ in Brave Settings:
brave://settings/privacy
I’m ALSO curious if you use an Anti-Virus/Malware software?
(Not to scare you)
If not, I personally use,
Intego & CleanMyMac:
(they are paid services though FYI)

Also @Evan123 just to get your attention again, seems it’s more complicated then you (and I) initially thought.
@Esnet, if this is happening when you click on certain pages, it’s likely a type of ad being triggered by the website. This is often seen on streaming sites that host copyrighted content, such as movies, anime, or manga. Based on your screenshot, it looks like you were visiting SFlix, which is an illegal streaming site (since it streams copyrighted movies that aren’t supposed to be available for free).
I tested it on my PC and didn’t experience any pop-ups, which may be because my Shields settings are different. If you haven’t changed yours, you could try adjusting your settings by going to Settings
→ Shields
and updating the following:
While there, click on Content Filtering
and enable Fanboy’s Annoyances + uBO Annoyances:
Keep in mind that ad servers and website code change frequently. Sometimes, sites include hidden elements that trigger ads when you click anywhere on the page.
This isn’t a bug with Brave—it’s just the websites using aggressive tactics to display ads or deliver malware. Unfortunately, this is common on many sites that try to generate revenue through ads.
@Saoiray is likely correct here — @Esnet I would be curious to know exactly what steps you take to produce one of these ads/pages. That is, what site are you on when this occurs and where/what you’re clicking before being redirected there.
Alternatively, a short screen recording of you producing the issue would also be very helpful.
I stream a movie from this sflix website and before the update yesterday it wasn’t getting new tabs open for ads and all ads but after the update it seems the ads are now opening new tabs and its really annoying unlike the brave we all know about.
@Esnet,
Checking on my end, unless you are clicking somewhere/on something specific that I’m not, I do not see any ads or pop-ups/redirects when I go to this site to view content.
Can you please go to brave://components
and ensure that the Brave Ad Block Updater
component is fully up to date?
Currently Its seems to be working fine without the ads on new tab I will be observing it for the next few days and if anything should come up I will get in touch. Thanks guys Brave remain the best browser so far.
The popups orginate from sflix tab, re-checked and we’re blocking them by default. (assuming the sflix domain is https://sflix.to/
)
It stopped for a while but then its back and opening new tab even on 3 clicks it opens 3 consecutively tabs.
Right now, it seems to be working fine without ads on the new tab. I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few days, and if anything changes, I’ll reach out. Thanks, everyone—Brave is still the best browser!
Hi @donniefuentess
I just thought I’d make it clear the original poster meant something different but you did see one of the answers here yes? There is a SPONSORED Show Sponsored Images
you can turn off in settings (which doesn’t ALWAYS happen on every tab page but does pop up once and awhile when enabled) and if that’s what YOU might be referring to…
