Tried ‘-enable-features=SkipUndecryptablePasswords’ and it seems like all the passwords are there, haven’t checked the list that brave shows and what SQLite has yet - will do that in a bit.
Suspecting that a password might be corrupt which is causing the decrypt service to softly fail.
Okay interesting.
firstly when I logged into here I got the prompt to save the password, which I did.
I then looked through the entire database noting which passwords did not appear in the password manager screen, to which I found that all the passwords that didn’t appear all had their;
‘date_password_modified’ set as 0
‘username_value’ set as 0 characters long (empty)
‘blacklisted set as’ 1 (though I assume that’s from the ‘skip’ thing)
I couldn’t see any pattern between them in any of the other entries, including the object entries (just looking at the hex, at least), that didn’t also appear for passwords that where still appearing, just these 3 entries.
I then tried re-launching brave from the task bar (which doesn’t have ‘-enable-…’) instead of the start bar (which does) and logged in here with the saved password via auto-fill.
Thing is the password manager still shows no passwords (because ‘-enable-…’ is not active) and all other sites auto-fill do not work either - only here works, probably because I had just added the password after this bug started occurring.
To which note, the last entry (this site) has significantly more entries that where not blank, I think it might not be corruption (thankfully) but at some point chromium probably changed the way it parses the entries (or updated what it passes in arguments to the decrypt service) I think it’s best to do a sanity check with an example dataset to see if this might actually be what’s breaking things.
This has happened to me today. I clear data on exit and never had any issue. The last thing I did was login to Google which sent me through a series of setups as was first time logging in from this Computer. I first tried to login on Chrome and then switched to Brave.
All passwords deleted. Brave is no saving any new ones either. No other information deleted. Usernames still prompted, but not the passwords.
Noticed it yesterday when I turned computer on.
OS Using windows 10. Versión 1.68.128 Chromium: 127.0.6533.73 (Build oficial) (64 bits)
Not using password manager.
Not using Brave Sync.
Browser glitched and stop responding for some seconds (that day or the day before).
Updated a graphic card driver a few days earlier.
Caught the same issue as everyone else here. Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon. Brave Version 1.68.128 Chromium: 127.0.6533.73 Official built (64). Passwords have disappeared from the Password Manager. At the same time they remained in the Login Data database. Also new login-password mappings were not added to the database when entering them on sites. If you added a new combination through the Password Manager menu, they appeared until the browser was reloaded and were not offered for input on the sites. Above it was indicated how to defeat this for Windows users. In Mint the solution is the same - you need to add “--enable-features=SkipUndecryptablePasswords” to the Exec line of the Brave.desktop file.
same os and brave version as konder1999 above, brave updated 2 days ago and same issue cropped up i.e. passwords gone
even re-importing from csv and re-starting brave does nothing, they disappear
no password manager, no sync
bookmarks fine
i don’t have a brave.desktop file anywhere on my system, does anyone know where to locate this file in mint?
edit ~ found a rather long-named brave .desktop file in /gnome/apps that actually has ‘password manager’ in the file text, i have added the contents below (with the added text suggested above, but it does nothing)
Q: What OS are you using where the issue occurred?
A: Windows 10 Home
Q: Brave version you have installed?
A: Version 1.68.131 Chromium: 127.0.6533.73 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Q: When/how/what actions were taken when the data loss occurred?
A: I had attempted to install a plug-in for the MusicBee app (not a plug-in for Brave) that would allow it to sync with my iOS devices. The installation yielded no change in my ability to sync with MusicBee, so I uninstalled MusicBee. Then I restarted my computer, and walked away. The next day, I opened Brave, and navigated to a website I routinely visit. When I tried to log in, I noticed that the password auto-fill wasn’t popping up as expected. It was then that I checked the passwords & autofill section to find that all my passwords were gone. I’ve tried restarting the computer; this yielded no change.
Q: Please tell us exactly what data was lost:
A: Passwords only. Payment methods, addresses & more are all still there. All browsing history still there. All tabs from previous browsing session opened.
Q: Are you using a password manager extension?
A: None that I’m aware of.
Q: Are you using Brave Sync?
A: Probably not, since looking at the logins & passwords section of Brave on my mobile devices shows those passwords saved on my mobile device, but none of the passwords that were lost on my desktop.
I’m having the same issue after the latest update…
All passwords have vanished! and any new passwords I try to set up don’t appear either.
When I go to password manager it is empty and this text is showing-
Passwords
Add
Saved passwords will appear here. To import passwords to Password Manager on this device, select a CSV file.
I tried importing an old copy (CSV file) of some of my passwords and it didn’t change anything and doesn’t work, so I think the passwords will probably still be there but Brave is no longer recognizing them!
I’ve attempted the fixes that have been mentioned in this thread, they haven’t worked either…
Try to find it in /usr/share/applications directory. My line looks like Exec=/usr/bin/brave-browser-stable --enable-features=SkipUndecryptablePasswords
*** What OS are you using where the issue occurred (be as specific as possible, eg Win 10, Win 11, macOS Ventura v13.3.1)?** Win 11

*** When/how/what actions were taken when the data loss occurred (eg, Did the browser crash? Did this occur after a system restart? Did this occur after an update? etc.)** Hard Restarted PC
*** Please tell us exactly what data was lost (was it just passwords? Passwords and bookmarks? All data? etc.).** Passwords and Extensions only
*** Are you using a password manager extension? If so, is Offer to save passwords enabled?** Yes
I have histograms
Login data is all there when viewed via notepad, but when attempting to access via DB Browser, it says its locked.
happened on macos. All passwords are gone after the update. if I try to save new passwords, the password manager will show nothing. so it is like a feature that has stopped to work completely.
Still sometimes is is showing the passwords during the auto-fill. I can’t say under which specific conditions. But generally this feature is not working.
I have noticed now that this happens almost every time after the browser is updated.
First time running after the update, everything is fine.
But then close it and open it again and everything is forgotten. It’s like some post-upgrade task that the browser runs is messing up the access to the password manager.
