Iâm using a MacBook Air (Sonoma 14.5) and noticed today that the âPasswordsâ page is now missing. I know my passwords are still there somewhere because Brave still offers the passwords in autofill situations.
This issue started sometime after August 2nd, 2024 and it wasnât after a restart or a browser crash. My updates happen automatically so it may have happened after the latest update.
Current Brave version: 1.68.134 Chromium: 127.0.6533.88 (official build) (x86_64)
I do not have Histogram.
I just lost the âPasswordsâ page. Bookmarks and user history are still observable at this time.
Iâm not using a password manager extension.
Iâm not using Brave Sync.
Iâm not using a separate/different browser profile than I normally do.
Profile hasnât been changed.
Data wasnât cleared.
Data isnât set to clear on exit
No changes to my MacOS.
I didnât change my system password.
Hope this can be fixed soon for Mac users.
âŚand they are gone again
linux mint did update brave, so i thought that would be the ticket
but alas, the ticket was back to where brave is broken and unrepairable
the good news is i have moved on to librewolf and have no issues with passwords, or massive amounts of ram being gobbled up by brave
no more laptop fans running continuously
i still like brave though
Hi folks,
Just a heads-up that the recent Password Manager
-related issues have been identified, fixed, and uplifted to both 1.68.x
and 1.69.x
.
Depending on the release schedule, we may release the fix via Griffin, too, to get it to you guys ASAP.
Hereâs some background regarding the issue.
Brave Version 1.69.168 Chromium: 128.0.6613.138 (Official Build) (64-bit)
OS Version Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
Yep. Trying to manage my passwords in Brave is a nightmareâŚ
This is still a problem with 1.69 on Slackware Linux.
Yesterday everything had got logged out again and passwords forgotten. I logged back into a couple of sites and today they have been logged out again.
It usually lasts longer than 1 day though, so it seems like the cause is completely random.
I just had this problem for the first time.
Iâm using Windows 10
Brave Version v1.70.126
The browser crashed, and I lost the log in information and passwords when Brave restarted. I donât remember if I did the update right before, but I donât think so. The passwords seem to be in the Login Data file.
I canât see the most recent crash on brave://crashes, so I donât have the crash ID. I remember choosing no for something about crash reports when I launched the browser before I was aware of the lost data problem, so that might have something to do with this.
I still have the bookmarks and history, itâs just the websites I was logged out of and the saved passwords.
I am not using a password manager extension.
I am not using sync or other profiles.
I downloaded the histograms and can send them.
I need some passwords back urgently and tried the chrome://flags/#clear-undecryptable-passwords fix but it didnât work. I also tried installing various other browsers and importing data from Brave to access the passwords but that hasnât worked either.
I would appreciate any suggestions to recover the passwords somehow other than these two solutions that havenât worked for me.
I relaunched Brave this morning (from searchbar) after having shut down my system the previous night. Upon relaunch Brave had a popup saying it hadnât shut down properly. From there, I agreed to send diagnostics, and clicked restore pages. Then I found that Iâd been signed out of everything and Passwords were gone.
Brave is up to date

I donât have/use separate browser profiles and am not currently in one,
I havenât cleared browsing data,
I havenât changed system passwords
I donât think it was a crash, and brave://crashes says the last crash happened in september.
No I was not using any password manager other than the one built into Brave
No I do not use Brave Sync
Additionally, I have checked Login data
with a DB viewer and all data appears to be present. I also have a histogram I can share.
I will say, I wasnât able to see any of the passwords in the password_notes
section of database, but login info were all present under logins
.
I tried working through a few of the workarounds mentioned in this thread, but they have not brought back the lost passwords. When I booted up Brave this morning, I re-signed into a few services (just email) and Iâd saved those passwords again and they appear to have stayed even with restarting the browser, as in password manager seems to work fine with any new entries. Theyâve also been added to the Login data
file, but password manager doesnât seem to register any of the other entries in there. When importing to firefox, only the new entries from this morning were moved.
Any help either resolving this issue or being able to view the passwords in database would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I had a similar problem, and I couldnât find a solution, I had reset my PC due to a problem but kept the windows.old so when I made a fresh Brave install and copied the Default folder to my surprise everything worked besides the passwords, I tried everything in this post but it didnât work, so my last attempt was to go to Settings
> Reset Settings
and clear it, I then went to copy the password files again and this time I went to User Data
copied the old âLocal Stateâ and made a backup of this new one and replaced the new Local State
with the old one, I started Brave again and voila the passwords showed up.
I made an account to reply here for anyone who may still have this problem.
In conclusion replace the new Local State
in User Data
with the old one and copy the password files to the new User Data/Default
folder.
I am having the same issue as everyone else here. I am on Windows 10 and when I loaded up my browser all my passwords were gone. All bookmarks and data seems to have stayed within the browser but the passwords. I did notice that my extensions got disabled and i had to go into the settings to reactivate them. I have tried doing the ââenable-features=SkipUndecryptablePasswordsâ method as well as updating my browser (Currently in 1.77.95) but I am still not seeing my old passwords. I am able to find all of them within the Login Data file but they are not appearing in my password section of the browser.
Any help or suggestions to get access to my passwords again would be great!
Hello, same problem here.
OS: Windows 11 Pro
Brave: latest version (but itâs some months I have this problem)
All login data present in âLogin dataâ sqlite db
Bitwarden password manager
Brave sync active with a notebook and android phone
No crash
No cleaned data
Today I was on a page inside Reddit, when I click on the site logo (to return to itâs home page) all my login was lost with the browser opened.
This spcefici case is the first time, normally I have to close and reopen the browser to make the problem appear.
I have to tell that this problem will not happen on the android phone, only in Windows.
I also have a mac, but I donât use so often, but even after days and days the data will persist.
I forgot to mention that I donât have any strategy of cleaning data inside my browser.
Hi, same problem occured today for me.
OS: Windows 10 Pro 21H1
Brave: Version 1.78.97 Chromium: 136.0.7103.93 (Official Build) (64-Bit)#
This morning everything worked fine. Shutdown, got to work, returned this evening, booted up, opened Brave: i was logged out from every site and passwords gone. My bookmark bar config was gone (not the bookmarks but the visibility of the bar).
No problem, can set it back to show always again.
Login data present and passwords are encrypted in Login Data file (checked with sqlite browser app)
No user/password change for OS.
No Login Data.bak file.
History and Bookmarks are there.
No Brave Sync.
Because iâve been logged out from every site and the sites are not recognizing me, cookies are gone too i guess.
I forgot to say, that this happend for Brave only. Chrome, Edge, Firefox are still able about their saved passwords.
A reply, above, re Local State file and recovering passwords:
@289wk thanks for the tag and @Lyte thank you for reporting. Passing this information onto the team now.
Hi,
Just faced this issue also.
OS: Linux 6.15.3-2-cachyos
Brave: [Brave 1.79.126 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Chromium: 137.0.7151.119
When/how: The issue was triggered by my system froze (GPU-issue) and I forced a re-start.
Crash: not an application crash
Affected: Lost all passwords⌠nothing else affected for now.
Password manager extension: Not used here.
SYNC: Sync active. Seem to be only this desktop issue for now.
Histogram: I do have the file available.
Login Data: I have the data-file
EDIT: Was able to export the passwords from the other synced devices and then import them back to this desktop client. So now I have the passwords back again.. though, the issue is worrying.. as seems to still be happening to some.
Version Info:
Brave 1.80.115 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Chromium: 138.0.7204.97
Windows 11 24H2
Every two or three months I sit down, open Brave, and realize that all my passwords and account information are gone. For a while, I tried to peg it happening to Brave updating, but I havenât found any definite correlation between the two that would make me say one is the cause of the other. I have no idea how to reproduce what seems to be a random occurrence.
Brave has a feature that would certainly help mitigate this aggravating pain in the butt, and its called sync! Unfortunately, the sync function rarely works of itâs own volition, and in this case the sync connection to my phone gets erased (only on desktop- Brave mobile is not affected) and of course there is no âsync nowâ function- you configure everything, and then wait. Did it sync? Is it going to sync? How will I know if it syncs? How often does it sync? It leaves me with a sense of unfulfilled expectation every time.
In spite of these annoyances, Brave is my Browser of choice and Iâm otherwise happy with it.

Same problem here! i got the âpassword lossâ thing, i was just browsing like i do everyday, but something really odd happened, when i changed between windows, a rare annoucement appeared in a window, i can barely remember what it said, but when i clicked on âmore infoâ send me to this URL: https://brave.com/blog/privacy-preserving-product-analytics-p3a/ , after that i tried to get to âxâ and youtube, but âbrave unlogged meâ from all my âloggedâ accounts, so i did âallâ (almost) the research on the forums, i did the âcheck user changeâ, the ââenable-features=SkipUndecryptablePasswordsâ (didnât work), also i checked the âLogin Dataâ file and is still there, nothing deleted, all my browser configs are intact, just the passwords are gone, and i donât know how to get them back, so, is there any possible solution?, and no, i donât have the âSyncâ option enabled.
Windows OS users. Brave Browser (âBBâ) data is within the folder and sub-folders of the User Data
folder; location:
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\
Please Exit / Quit BB; Restart computer; and then back up that folder. The Login Data
file is an SQLite file. DB Browser for SQLite, is handy for viewing the file contents - you will not see the passwords in plain text, but you can verfify that the passwords exist.
Login Data file:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\Login Data
SOMETIMES: A BB user has recovered passwords by using the backed up Login Data
file; and sometimes by doing that PLUS using the backed up Local State
file; and sometimes by a combination of: Resetting the Brave Browser Settings, using the backed up Login Data file, plus, using the backed up Local State file.
Local State file:
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Local State
Check storage health, recent updates, and sync settings. Backup data and contact support if the issue continues.
