My saved passwords are gone

All my saved passwords are gone i didn’t do anything I used my saved password 30-40 min ago now all are gone but all my browser extensions and bookmarks is still there I had a lot of my passwords saved in this now they all are gone
please someone help me I don’t remember some of those usernames

Operating System is windows 11 home and Brave Version is v 1.77.100

You might also make a Windows OS System Restore Point at the end of the day.

Name your System Restore Points, chronologically - that is, begin each name with the date and time; example (yyyymmdd-hhmm):

  • 20250416-1522 etc. . . .
  • 20250417-0822 etc. . . .

So you can find the specific System Restore Point that you want to try.


I have been using GoodSync for almost 20 years, in order to backup Windows OS machines.

In particular, re using an Internet browser, I use backup scripts - could be a Windows OS batch file, or a WinZip feature - for backing up the “BraveSoftware” folder in the following Windows OS path (Brave Browser system level installation):

C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\

Other users, back up the “Brave-Browser” or “User Data” folder - which are also good choices. (I prefer the senior-most container.)

but how do i get my data back, its gonna be a big problem for me as I don’t remember the usernames

Most likely you won’t. If you recently changed your password or something, then changing it back might work. Potentially doing a system restore to a recent point before they went missing might have an impact.

Otherwise, I think @clifton, @szilardszaloki and everyone at Brave has been completely stumped on this and have no solution for people. The only suggestion really is to have sync going as it generally can keep things safe but then to always do regular backups.

Unfortunately this has been an issue for 2+ years now. Official topic on it was at NOTICE: Unexplained Data Loss Issue and they have an open Github that you can see linked to on it. But as said, there’s been nothing definitive or helpful overall except the article I linked you to, which doesn’t say much but at least is an attempt by them to explain where things seem to be going wrong.

Hard part is there’s not been anything to trigger it. If can’t reproduce or anything, then hard to know the origin. Without that, can’t really “fix” it. But I am hoping for some improvements here soon for the people who are randomly having the problem.

i did have a system restore point I did that in feb lets see if it works and I get back my data

No guarantee it will work but is something of a roll of the dice I’ve seen mentioned before. I’ll have my fingers crossed that it will work for you

u are right it didnt work now I been noticing one new problem now whenever I visit a website it asks me for human verification
