There may be a chance, that the bookmarks and passwords are intact.
Two courses to recovery:
-
An improvement to Brave Browser, by the Brave developers - we hope - would succeed at making the passwords re-appear.
-
On the other hand, Brave Browser users may want to find their passwords, much sooner.
Either way, I recommend routine (every 24 hours) backups of the important “BraveSoftware” data folder. The sub-folders of that “BraveSoftware” data folder, contain the user Profile(s).
The value of backing up that “BraveSoftware” data folder: Because that backup retains the organization of the various items - so you will know: What, is/was Where.
Where that “BraveSoftware” data folder is located
Linux OS:
In a Brave Browser New Window, go to: “brave://version”
Scroll down to “Profile Path”
The location of the “BraveSoftware” data folder is in that “Profile Path”.
The find-the-Profile-Path method for locating that folder, takes into consideration, that the “BraveSoftware” data folder location can vary, among the Linux OS installations (Debian, Mint, PiOS, Ubuntu, etc.).
Whereas, the “BraveSoftware” data folder location for Mac OS and Windows OS users, does not vary:
Mac OS:
/Users/[your_user_shortname]/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/[etc.]
Windows OS:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\[etc.]
For compressing files
Linux OS - Gzip or tar files
https://www.cyberciti.biz/howto/question/general/compress-file-unix-linux-cheat-sheet.php
Mac OS - .zip files:
Finder menu bar > File menu > Compress
Windows OS - .zip files:
WinZip or 7-zip
Give the backed up files, names that include the date and time, and the Brave Browser version; examples:
- 20241124-1322_Sunday_BrvSftwrFldrBkup_Brv1.73.89.zip
- 20241201-0127_Sunday_BrvSftwrFldrBkup_Brv1.73.91.zip
Windows OS users, should, IMHO, also routinely create a System Restore Point:
https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-restore-windows-10
Include in the System Restore Point name, the date and time, and the Brave Browser version.
You could use an application named “CCleaner” to police the System Restore Points, deleting old ones.
