Mailto in Brave attempts to open google chrome

Description of the issue:
Every time I click a mailto in Brave it says Open Google Chrome - it tries to open the mailto link in chrome. I have tried to find the handler for this and cannot.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
I have tried several mailto links and it does the same.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result:
To be able to default to my mail application - mac mail. Not a web mail reader.

Reproduces how often:
Every time I click a mailto

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Mac os mojave 10.14.6
Brave [
Version 1.32.113 Chromium: 96.0.4664.45 (Official Build) (x86_64)

Additional Information:
I have been all over trying to turn off chrome - I have tried the handlers in brave and chrome and google. It is not working.

Can you please, on your system, open the Mail app, click on the Mail option in the title bar, then Preferences. Here, do you see Brave listed as your default email reader? If not, can you try setting it to Brave from the drop-down menu and see if this works?
