Incorrect Dates

(10 screenshots so 5 then a reply with the interaction continued with AI)

If this search information wasn’t so integral, I wouldn’t say anything. I realize that AI is not perfect. It often provides incorrect answers because it gathers whatever appears most frequently, even if that information is incorrect. However, to incorrectly state the date as factual repeatedly, and when asked point blank — to give it incorrectly repeatedly, I think is a major issue. I think at least something as important as what day of the week it is should be correct. Although I asked AI If I could report this issue to someone who represents Brave, it assured me that the issue would be passed along. However, when I looked here at what information is used from AI, it’s clearly states that once the chat session is closed, the information is erased and it is not used for training purposes. To me, that sounds as if no one would ever know about this unless I say something.

For a log of all that occurred, please see the attached screenshots.

~~ I searched for the hours of a local store. At the end of that information, the date is listed as April 14, 2025.
~~ I searched again and was shown the same incorrect date
~~ I queried AI asking directly “what is today’s date?” I was told it’s October 14, 2023.
~~ After stating that the date given is incorrect, I asked again “what is today’s date?” It answered saying today is Monday, April 14, 2025.
~~ I stated that the date provided is not the correct date.
~~ On the third attempt, AI provided the correct date.
~~I asked if there is someone I can speak with regarding the incorrect information.

I look forward to hearing something actually. I found this really confusing at first because I did sleep all day so I wondered if somehow I’d missed an entire 24 hour period. AI predicting the future crossed my mind but I verified the date and time at www.timeanddate.com. When AI then tells me it’s 2 years ago and then when pressed again tells me it’s tomorrow, I realized this is an issue. Luckily I realized but as I told AI, the difference in the day of the week being Sunday or Monday and providing the information correctly is extremely important not just to me but to everyone.

Thank you,
Theresa

Does anyone see posts from Brave??

Hello hello… echo echo…. Hey! HEY!!

Hello!

  1. If Leo (the chatbot itself) tells you it will use your feedback or let someone know, that’s a hallucination. LLMs hallucinate and there’s no real way around this at the moment, that’s just how the tech is and it’s the reason you should not 100% rely on anything they tell you. If you need to give feedback on a conversation use the thumbs up or thumbs down buttons on the message you want to report.
  2. I am not sure if the web search summarizer AI is given the current date as context. In any case though if the web results contain dates, it is possible that the AI can get confused and think that one of the dates in the results is the current date (maybe one of the web results said something like “Today 14th of October 2023 our shop will blah blah…”).
  3. Keep in mind that that AI is not the same AI as the one that you are conversing with when you “Ask a follow up question”. The latter is Leo, which has it’s own context with current date etc so maybe that’s why got the right answer eventually because Leo is the actual assistant AI. The one generating the summary is just a summarizer of the web results.

LLMs (the tech behind Leo) can be frustrating but once you learn to recognize some common pitfalls it’s incredibly useful.
