I can't believe there isn't a simple way to move all Brave settings to a new PC

I am finally retiring my WIndows 7 PC and I want to install Brave on my new Windows 11 PC. I have tried looking here and on the the internet but there doesn’t seem to be a simple, reliable way to transfer all my settings from my old PC to my new one. Sync won’t work as I cannot run both machine at the same time. It seems that one can copy the user data folder but since there is a considerable version difference between old and new, some posts have said this could be a problem. Can anyone help?

Sync though even if it was able to run will only sync certain settings. The only thing you can do is copy the profile folder over to its new location and only then install Brave on top of it’s self. I was thinking that may cause the profile stuff to be updated.

Moving the folder over doesn’t carry over passwords though, just saying. That’s because would be lost after losing encryption key that’s tied to original device.

Option 1 = Sync device. As long as code shared same day before it expires, you’re good.

Option 2 = Export passwords and bookmarks, then import back

Option 3 = Copy user data folder over and also export passwords, then replace on new device

Option 4 = Export bulk to Chrome and have it associated with your Google account. Then add Chrome on new device and have it pull your synced data from your Google account, which you can then export to Brave.

How long is the sync code good for? I got a code today but may not set up my new PC for another week.
also, when you sync, does all that info go to the cloud? and then you paste the code on your new PC? hopefully that deletes from the cloud. Thanks

@wanderinpilgrim,
Sync would be the way to go here. Your Sync code will not expire by the time you get your new PC. My advice would be to wait until you get your new PC, then on your old Win7 machine, start a Sync chain and make sure you copy and send the Sync code somewhere easily accessible.

Then, on your new PC, install Brave, and add your new PC as a device on the Sync chain. All your data will then Sync to your new PC. From there, once you confirm all the relevant data is successfully transferred, you can remove your old device (or both devices if you want to) from the Sync chain.

More information on how to use Brave Sync here:

Knowing me i’ll proly end up just doing it the hard way but i’ll try sync. First i need to learn what a sync ‘chain’ is.
Hey, when you say, “make sure you copy and send the Sync code somewhere easily accessible” - do you mean like when i copy/pasted it into a word document?

Does the Sync process handle my one profile or will I still need to copy/paste it into the folder on the new pc?
and it’s only the profile folder i hear people copy? It would be bad to copy over the entire user data folder?
Sorry to be a bother. I’ve been having to research sooo many things in sooo many areas, that im just exhausted.
chin up and all that of course. Thanks for the reply
