Is there a way to block specific websites? I’m cleaning up my life and want to block all the time-sucking sites I visit.
From what I saw, it’s been more than a year since this feature was requested and still no updates on it.
There are apps for Android that work with Chrome and Firefox but still not with Brave, which is kind of frustrating.
Why no answers? Or were there answers to this…Brave does not make it easy in this respect - anyone know where to go?
in my case, I wanted to block youtube for some time so I removed all its permissions, and that completely jagged the website, so now technically it won’t run when I open it, I guess that’s the option right now.
There is the third party app Block Site which also works with Brave.
I have found a way!!
So go to settings (on desktop) and search “block”
now from there scroll down to Privacy and security
from there scroll to the bottom to Site and Shields Settings
Now from there head to content and there select javascript and in there add a blocked site “www.youtube.com”
Now youtube wont open :).
Hope this helps because I also wanted to focus on my studies. Enjoy and All the best!
Could you please explain this better
On Android
Go to settings
Site settings
Java script allowed
Enter the bad url or url you do not want to come up in search
I added Quora because I believe there ratio of correct to fasle is below 50.50
Unfortunately they seem to have changed the list segment in one of the last updates, so I can’t edit my list anymore (it’s gone as the UI changed)and the blocked sites stay blocked. I couldn’t find the responsible file on file system level to delete it.
Anyone ran into the same issue?
Plz Brave-staff implement this! It can not be so hard?
worked. thank you so much.
I found a way that’s even better than what Boyle suggested.
Just export and import the SSL certificate and put it in Untrusted Publishers. This way no data from the website is loaded behind the scenes.
However, certificates expire after a few years. They can either renew the same certificate, or get a new. If they get a new certificate, you can, as a backup, click “Create Custom filters” in Brave and add “www.dr.dk##html” without the quotes, for example. This will make the website blank, incase blocked JavaScript does nothing. You should still block all permissions, in case other files load behind the scenes. The little icon in the URL area will still be visible, so it’s best to do the certificate thing as the primary blocking mechanism.
i have found a very simple way…
go to brave browser settings (desktop)…then go to extensions…then allow google logins for extensions… then download blocksite extension from brave…and then u could block the site from that extension…i hope it helps …btw it worked for me.
for android u could download block site for playstore and it would work.
That’s a smart way to do it, but will be an issue for those using sync
Another way…
Go to brave settings, then clik on site settings, then clik on JavaScript, scroll down to block sites or allow sites… You can block everything, & just add sites you allow or just block as they popup. Thats what i do. I have about 4,485 sites blocked last time i checked… GL👍
Another way is to go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and edit the “hosts” file.
Add lines such as these:
127.0.0.1 cardgames.io
127.0.0.1 www.cardgames.io
and you will not get access to the URL
This is sort of a workaround and actually does work yes, but still not a “perfect” solution, although one that is indeed working.
It totally worked!!! YAAS - not really sure how to undo it, but for now that does not matter! Thanks a lot @Boyle
this is the perfect solution, no third party extension or anything <3
