Federated learning of cohorts

hi!

first, thanks for creating a great tool i used daily.

i just heard about google’s federated learning of cohorts (floc) proof of concept (https://github.com/WICG/floc), which i understand is targeted to be built into chromium. i am concerned for similar reasons as the eff (https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/03/googles-floc-terrible-idea), and would like to know what brave’s position on floc is. do ya’ll have any plans to address this? if so, what steps are ya’ll looking to take?

This post deserves an answer. Google is about to perform a test on its users without consent or a clear way to opt-out. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/03/google-testing-its-controversial-new-ad-targeting-tech-millions-browsers-heres

@ratmav @Sinjid,
Thank you for reaching out and asking. In short, we do not support this and strip it from our builds:

  1. At this time, we disable the FLoC component update in Brave, which disables most of the FLoC behavior.
  2. We have an open issue here (being worked on presently) to rip out all remaining functionality:
