Feature Request: Enhanced Sync - Separate Open Tabs and Tab Groups + Selective Syncing

I’d like to suggest some enhancements to the Brave Sync feature to provide users with greater control over what data is synchronized across devices. Currently, syncing tabs seems to be an “all or nothing” approach, which can lead to clutter and bandwidth usage when you only want specific things synced.

My request is for the following

  1. Separate Syncing for Open Tabs and Tab Groups:
    • Implement distinct toggles for syncing “Open Tabs” and “Tab Groups”.
    • This would allow users to sync their organized tab groups without being forced to sync every single open tab that might just be temporary or device-specific.
  2. Selective Syncing based of only Named Groups
    • Add an option to only sync tab groups that have been explicitly named.
    • This would prevent syncing of unnamed or default tab groups, further refining the sync process and reducing unnecessary data transfer. For example, maybe I have some temporary tabs grouped, I don’t want these on my other devices.

Use Case

I often have a mix of permanent, organized tab groups and temporary, ungrouped tabs open. I’d love to sync my carefully curated tab groups across devices (work, home, mobile), but I don’t necessarily want every single random tab I have open on one device to appear on all my other devices. The ability to sync only named tab groups would be even more useful, ensuring only my intentionally organized content is synchronized.

Benefits:

  • Reduced clutter across synced devices.
  • Improved bandwidth efficiency.
  • More granular control over synced data.
  • A cleaner, more organized browsing experience.

I believe these enhancements would significantly improve the usability and flexibility of the Brave Sync feature. Thank you for considering my request!
