Certificate error wrongly suggests system clock is ahead

Description of the issue:

Brave shows “Your clock is ahead” when a certificate has expired, even though the clock is accurate.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Go to https://1000-sans.badssl.com on Brave for Android

Expected result:

The certificate is expired (which is a separate issue on their end), but the error should suggest that the certificate is expired rather than the clock being wrong.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Brave 1.3.2

Mobile Device details

Pixel 2, Android 10

Hi @mholt,

Thanks for reporting your issue. Are you experiencing this with other sites? I’m running into a certificate issue on desktop with this site as well. When you have a moment try updating to the latest Android release and see if you experience the same issue.

Thanks in advance!

No, it’s just this one site. That site is supposed to have a certificate issue like I said, but not a warning about the local clock being wrong.

I’m on the latest Android release (no updates available).

Thanks for reporting. This is indeed a bug. I have logged an issue for this and can be tracked here

Thank you! I didn’t realize there was a GitHub tracker for that.

Closing the thread for now. Please use the GH tracker for more details
