I can use google sign in for every site I’m on except otter.ai. I don’t get an error message, it’s simply that the progress line keeps flickering endlessly. I can only log in using incognito mode. But I don’t have any extensions specific to otter, so I don’t know what that is the single site it doesn’t work on.
I’ve tried turning off shields. I’ve cleared Otter’s cache with Ctrl+F5. I’ve tried the settings suggestions people have made for people who couldn’t use Google sign in on any site. But nothing works except incognito mode, which is a PITA.
UPDATED INFO: As a test I tried clicking the Apple and Microsoft login buttons - they don’t work either. So it’s not Google-specific.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Get on my PC
Go to otter.ai/login
Click “continue with Google”
Expected result:
A google sign-in dialog box should pop up so I can choose my account and proceed. But that simply never happens.
Alternatively, you can check and confirm that this permission is granted by clicking the “tune” icon next to the URL, then Site settings --> Google Sign-in:
Yes, I had that set to allow. I had gone into site settings a while ago and chose allow for anything that seemed like it might be relevant, like the Google Sign-in and Pop ups and javascript.
@cherold,
Can you actually click the Continue with Google button again and after clicking it, use Alt + Tab to swap windows or just move your browser window around and see if the sign in box is appearing behind the browser window?
That didn’t work either. One thing I hadn’t checked before but did now was whether the other logins would pop up - they don’t. Apple shows the progress bar working. Microsoft doesn’t even do that. So it’s not a Google sign-in issue.
@cherold hey, I just wanted to pop in as I wanted to offer a thought based on a comment of yours:
To be clear, it can be any extension at all. Just because it’s not designed for a website or might be something you think isn’t interacting, it can still create issues.
As you mentioned it working in incognito, this practically confirms the issue is either due to cookies or extensions. While there are other possibilities, it’s highly likely to be one or the other.
You may want to try creating a second browser profile to see if it works there. If it does, then gradually add extensions to that second browser profile and see at which point it breaks, which may guide you to whichever extension is causing the conflict in your main profile. (assuming it is an extension creating the problem)
